**Official Rice University Fall 2017 Transfer Thread**

Did everyone get an email saying status update?

@dscottvb That argument would make sense if they had released everything today, but they didn’t. If they had released waves like how Vanderbilt or Northwestern have done over the last ~3 weeks, then, yeah, that would work.

I was also accepted.

@AGoodFloridian I’m sorry, dude. You were really passionate about the school - I was rooting for you!! Keep your hopes up; you will definitely get into a great place. This just goes to show that admissions is a crapshoot.

@AGoodFloridian I wish you the best with your college search. I had the same sense of defeat last year after finding out that the only college that accepted me snubbed me on my financial aid. But it gets a lot better  Whatever college you go to, you’ll have a great time because you’re motivated. In the meantime, I have a question for everybody. I’d like to accept my place on the waitlist, but I don’t know how to write a letter. I want to accept the spot to go to Rice, but I have to mention how I can’t accept the spot if my financial aid isn’t good enough, sucks being low-income. What do you guys suggest?

waitlisted. college gpa 3.9, hs 3.85, lots of extra curriculars, some research experience, on two e-boards. i have decided to stay at my current school. good luck to everyone–i think this year’s applicant pool was unusually competitive.

I think over enrolling the freshman class would effect transfers. At the best of times Rice is very tight on dorm space. They have to have beds to put those extra freshman in not to mention class space. This leaves less physical room to bring on any more students as transfers.they might be allocating a greater number of their dorm rooms to freshman. But just a thought.

I didn’t check decisions until today, but the status update email was sent to me yesterday sometime before 3. I got in, and today is my birthday. Does anyone know if transfers can defer? Or the process of reapplying after admission? That would be awesome. I’m afraid of leaving my current university, although Rice is more prestigious starting over would be hell.

@umbra505 @ajaxo710 @1234pie1234 @JSPHHAN @pearmetty @sahar1811 Did you guys decide what you will do relative to the waitlist? I’m still trying to figure it out.

@dalanium I don’t believe you can defer, unfortunately.

how close is Rice to houston downtown, if anyone has an idea?

Rice is about 4 miles south of downtown. There is a metro rail line that connects the campus with downtown.

If you accept a spot on the waitlist, is that a binding agreement such as Early Decision?

and @bradthegrad2019 i got into northwestern so as long as they give me enough transfer credit I’m going. bummer to not get accepted to rice the location is fantastic

@bradthegrad2019 i denied my spot as soon as i got in. i dont think the extra money is worth the prestige since im pretty happy at my current university. worst case, i would just accept the waitlist and if you get admitted from the list you can make a decision then

@pearmetty it isnt binding, you dont have to accept your admission if you get off the waitlist.

they did give credits to all the classes i took at my current school, but most of those are registered as lower-level credits and i don’t know how many of them will count toward major requirements (which is a big issue for me cos i don’t wanna graduate late).

thanks : ))

haven’t posted yet. accepted at Vandy and Rice. still deciding

@1234pie1234 I got really lucky in the admissions lottery this year. My stats are generally lower than those of others who were admitted… I think the main reason for my admission to those schools were because I got kickass LoRs from my profs and counselor. I’m so extremely happy that I have good options. On Stanford, honestly, my admission to UPenn and Northwestern gives me an inkling of hope, so I’ll have to get back to you on May 15th! I wrote an extremely satirical and humorous application for Stanford (because I had literally zero faith about my chances), so after decisions come out, I’ll make sure to post them!

@bradthegrad2019 I think I’ll take my spot on the waitlist and wait it out.

Was rejected, not shocking, but still painful. To everyone that got in congrats! Houston is a fun town. Seems like there weren’t many spots and a bunch of highly qualified applicants this year.

I’m so sorry to hear that, @TransferGuy86 . This year was undoubtedly a dark year for transfer students to Rice, and I can only hope that it will be the one and only dark year for them. May next year’s class not suffer the same fate that almost all of did this year.
