@Valientes Yeah, May 5th was the day.

The Box submission really can be anything meaningful to you. The admitted students I spoke with last year put everything from pictures of their dogs, to Joe Biden memes. Don’t feel restricted and pressured to “please” admissions with your pictures.

My son when doing his box submission made a watercolor drawing of a meaningful place to him.

Thanks guys! @AGoodFloridian How much would it hurt to apply with only one semester of college work.

@fjkdsdykh Good question! I’d refer you to last years thread, look at the person who made it (this person also had one semester, and a half of college work) and see how well that ended up for them lol :))

Nah, I’m kidding around. It won’t necessarily “hurt”, but a greater emphasis will be placed on your high school grades and test scores. If you’re applying as a rising junior instead, you’ll have a better chance of showing them how well you’re prepared for college level course work. I’d encourage you to apply if you feel you have strong grades in both high school and college, but keep your expectations realistic. Good luck!

Chance me guys! I think my case is a bit…weird?

Reason to transfer: Generally unhappy, unfulfilled. Always my dream since childhood to go to Rice.

Essays:
-My transition from believing a college degree could only benefit myself to realizing it can benefit others. My internship interview after graduating from high school.
-Growing up being two religions and learning to live with both, and that eventually realizing that this experience taught me to be more open, accepting.
-Talked about how Rice University is the pathway to my dream of making Houston the best it can be.

I don’t know. I like to think of my writing as good, but who am I to say that?

Sub-par stats I know.

Here’s where it gets tricky.

LORs:
1 from Accounting Professor (great)
1 from Biology Professor(probably won’t be out of this world)
1 from CEO of where I intern
1 from CFO of where I intern

My internship is VERY connected to Rice University (I’m talking multiple people on my org’s board who are also on the board of Rice, donations into the tens of millions). I doubt anyone from my organization will be doing more (i.e. talking to David Leebron or anyone else of importance) than write me the aforementioned LORs. I wouldn’t, however, leave that out of the picture. Doubt it though.

I hope none of you view me as a person of privilege or smugness. My family are first-generation immigrants and were born poor. I had to work extremely hard to get to the position I am today as a college freshman, and what I have now is through my own resolve. Of course, I am extremely grateful for all I have. It’s just that I’ve always loved Rice. Getting denied my senior year of high school after applying ED was tough, really tough. Being given the chance to apply again with better terms (non-academically, of course) is a godsend that I can’t not take advantage of.

Some of you might say that I have no chance at Rice, to accept that I’m just not qualified, that some other college would be happy to have me, and that I would be happy to have them. I agree, that might be true, but none of them would lead me to the path of happiness as fast as Rice would be able to, and that is a attempt I have to make.

Wow, that feels good to get out. Wish you all the best of luck!

@BluePinkerton , thanks for sharing. You seem like an ambitious person which is generally seen well! I would encourage you to apply to other colleges as well since it could be the case where their incoming freshmen class is over-enrolled again. If that happens, transfer admissions at Rice will be a blindfolded game of darts essentially.

You should also seek academically related reasons as to why you want to transfer. Does Rice have a stronger program than the one you’re in now? If so, what makes it stronger for your own particular goals? (helpful hint: US News rankings don’t count lol)

Hi @AGoodFloridian, I wonder what’s the source for the over-enroll news, and how would it impact our application. Does that mean the acceptance rate will be significantly low?

Another question, my ACT score is 33, and I have a lot of “W” on my college transcript and am currently taking a leave of absence from school. Hmm… I don’t know… the chance of me getting in would be quite low right?

Do we get to add explanation for the box submission? Or is it picture only.

@spacespace I believe it’s only picture or video clip.

Application submitted. Let’s give this another shot, right? Rice is the only college from my “last list” that I’m applying to this year.
Do second chances exist? Will there finally be redemption?

Find out, May 5th.

Do we have a portal to check our status?

@luckybaby You can use the same portal you used last year, welcome back!

wwww thank you very much!!! Every year meet Rice in application is a fantastic thing!!! @AGoodFloridian

Application sent, but one of my professors still hasn’t sent in her recommendation letter on Common App. Nervous rn :-/

Also, anyone know when we get access to the portal?
