Rejected
I can’t say that this process has made me bitter. In my college search, Rice has slowly fallen from my top choice to my last - via name blind evaluation using a Kepner-Tregoe matrix analysis.
It is not ideal, but it is reality and those who cannot adapt will be caught in the headlights of disaster. So, as I do not believe in luck, I hope for everyone the richest path to personal happiness and livelihood - accepted or not.
@turtlelover24 Well said, and you’re right, you’ll go where you deserve to go, wish you the best!
Late, but I was accepted! Anyone know if there is a facebook page or group.me
There is a Facebook page for Rice University Transfer Student Association but the page may not be very active. If you choose to go to Rice you will be attending O Week with the class of 2022. There also is a very active Facebook page for Rice University Class of 2022 that you can search for and ask to join. Make sure to note that you are on the accepted transfer list. Many Rice students that are not in the class of 2022 are members of the 2022 page such as the O Week advisors, etc. There are also pages for the other classes which you could join. but they may not be as active or informative as the page for the incoming freshman class.
@Houston1021 Thanks for the info! I just received a financial aid package from Rice and my jaw dropped. We always hear the terms being thrown around “meet full need” etc etc, and always see stories, but when I saw their offer, it was my first concrete example of how generous these colleges can be. The financial aid is literally more than the cost of attendance :)) No loans whatsoever.
A really big part of me just wants to accept their offer and enroll, and just cut this journey off right here and now lol
@AGoodFloridian I am very glad Rice came through on the financial end. I know from reading your threads for the past 2 years that Rice has been one of your top schools for a long time. Rice must have sensed that you were a great fit also. I hope you will hear good news from your other applications soon. Unless another school gives you a better financial aid package, you should enroll and not think twice.
@Houston1021 You’re absolutely right :)) I had made so many friends (who were incoming freshmen) last year, that gave me a sense of the the types of people I’d be around. Let’s just say that. even after all this time, when I shared the news with them they were just ecstatic and asked if I had committed already hahahaha
The financial aid is an amazing incentive. That plus the scholarship I was recently awarded means that I can focus entirely on my studies without having to worry about work-study. I’m fully aware that a lot of the kids who get into the school come from fantastic public/private high-schools so I’d need the extra time to get on a similar footing. I’m super excited, hard to articulate it into text lol
@AGoodFloridian be sure to post when you make your final decision. Not being tied to work study is a plus. There are many non work study jobs on campus if you have the time and want to make a few extra $. My daughter gives tours for the admissions office and works a few hours a week as a graphic designer for the wellness center. The yearbook and newspaper staff jobs are paid, and there are jobs in the Rice Coffee House just to name a few.
Does anyone know how many transfer students are waitlisted on average and how many of those are accepted?
