Anyone else applied to the Rockefeller SSRP 2017 on here?

I did! did u get into phase two?

@mimkop1
Sadly, no. I passed phase 1 which I’m happy about though because I am a sophomore. Did you?

I did, but I got rejected in phase 1 haha! I got into my other (realistic) first choice summer program, so I’m happy! SSRP was a super high reach for me, as a sophomore with no research experience and not many “significant” science achievements. Writing the essays were super fun though.

@19szhang That’s really impressive! Did you have any previous research experience? I’m thinking of applying to Rockefeller again next summer… :slight_smile:

@19szhang @thelittleswimmer Yah I got into phase 3 I’m really happy about it. I’m a junior with prior summer things though so you should definitely not be discouraged and apply next year, you’ll have a much higher chance of getting through. Good luck!

@mimkop1
Ah congrats! That’s amazing! Yeah thank you for the encouragement, I will definitely apply next year. :slight_smile: Please lmk if you get in, and how the program is :))

@thelittleswimmer
Thank you! Not really, my only prior research experience was at my school where we participated in something called the UBP. I’m definitely applying next summer, and you should too!

I was accepted to the program and am excited! Just curious what’s everyone planning on doing for rooming/ logistics?

@mimkop1

@01tennis @mimkop1

To get in, did you guys have previous research experience?

I have had a lot of experience in research but prior to this I don’t have any internships or professional research like Garcia, NIH, RSI etc. My research that I’ve done has been in school or in summer programs where I pursued my own project in a lab with partners my age, for about two weeks. I think that the best thing is to take advantage of all the materials that you have and pursue science, even if you can’t get a professional internship. Also I think that the essay is very important, so don’t disregard that factor as well :slight_smile:

@mic347

@mimkop1 Thank you! I don’t have any research experience at all (go to a school that doesn’t offer much), so I was wondering. I’ll probably just get a job this summer since I didn’t really know these programs existed until now and I couldn’t find a professor willing to let me work in their lab over the summer.

Hi, was anyone on the waitlist and know how to push or something to get off it?

What were your Rockefeller application essays about? I’m writing mine right now and I can’t figure out if they want me to explain how I’d solve climate change, show off my technology knowledge, etc.

@dumbo18 whatever you are interested in for the main topic is best. Instead of focusing on showing off knowledge, focus on showing your own personality through your essay w creative problem solving or just cool ideas you have
