I have a single in Giles… anyone know anything about giles?

For those that got GA- I was there last year.
It’s a great dorm for meeting people, :)

anyone know anything about aycock?

One: no one calls GA “gilbert”. (Just telling you freshers so you don’t look silly)

Two: RevDem, Pegram is awesome. (though kind of far from the bus) Not having AC really only sucks for the first few weeks. After that it is just extra money that you don’t have to pay. (plus the only dorm on East that has AC and decent sized rooms is Bell Tower as Randolf and Blackwell give you less square footage than prison inmates)

Three: Those asking about Bassett, it too is awesome. (I pretty much love East 1, though this will be my fourth year living there so I might be a little biased) Bassett just bought a new TV so you can thank last year’s house council for not being able to plan social events. (Brown and Alspaugh did that too, but Pegram did not)

If anyone has any questions about East campus (particularly East 1) I would be happy to answer them.

@chill101 I’ve never lived in Aycock but I can tell you that they tend to use a lot of innuendo when they paint their bench.

I’m in Bassett. YAYYY! Is that good…?

I am in Giles, can anyone tell me the perks and downers about living there?

Giles is probably the most convenient location - it’s near everything. I wasn’t there so I don’t know about the rooms, but there is no A/C.

i’m in bell tower… is it good?

just kidding… i know it’s good, but i think its location is pretty bad…

what are the largest/smallest dorms? which ones have ac? just wondering…

i think bell tower has pretty large rooms… idk if they’re the largest though

AC: Bell Tower, Blackwell, Randolph

No AC: Everything Else

Bell Tower is a great place to live- I didn’t live there- however, I know of people who complained that Bell Tower was the antisocial dorm and that it was one of the more cliquish dorms. However, things may change this year- it all matters by the personality of the students themselves.

can any one comment on how blackwell is? all i know is that it has ac.

Blackwell: Houses a lot of people (180-ish) and has tiny rooms

So does Randolph.. a reason why Bell Tower is considered the best of the AC dorms.

Yo does anyone know anything about Asplaugh or whatever its called?

Can someone tell me about GA?

Yes, I second mahavir. I am in GA too and would like to know some more information about it. There is basically nothig on the web. I only found 2 pictures.

I second tADD, anyone have any idea about Alspaugh or any pictures?

Alspaugh

https://rlhs.studentaffairs.duke.edu/communities/eastcampus/alspaugh.html

wow…its kinda funny b/c i can recognize some of the people asking for alspaugh…its cool to know the people you meet at duke are cc’ers lol

One of my sons was in Alspaugh last year. Very small room. One small closet and one wardrobe.

Bring lots of fans. I don’t think it cooled off until October. He made some close friends, had a wonderful roommate and was on a very successful intramural football team.

All in all, he had a phenomenal first year experience.

My other son was in Jarvis. Great location near the bus stop. The room was a little bigger. Much larger closets, but an odd lay-out. Again, bring lots of fans. He was on the same intramural team as his brother – also had a wonderful first year expereince.

Good luck to everyone.

For anyone asking about Alspaugh, it will be awesome next year. It has a very similar floor plan to the other east one dorms (Pegram, Bassett and Brown). It doesn’t have AC but that isn’t too bad. The rooms can vary in size but most are a decent size. Its a good location near the marketplace and the library. And if I do say so myself the RA staff in it should be pretty cool next year. (I’ll be there)
