Btw I didn’t intend for this to be a results only post. So any regular decision applicants feel free to discuss below! The decision template is only for after decisions are released.
Does decision come first by mail or online?
They are first released online. Here’s what was posted on RPI’s Facebook page: “Admisions decisions will be posted on the online status site at 7 PM on March 14.”
The wait will be excruciating, especially since it’s 10 hours after MIT releases
I didn’t apply there but I can just imagine. I think that 7pm is a little late. I wish it was around noon or something.
FWIW, my son got his ED acceptance hours before the supposed 7 pm release time (I think around 3 pm?). He was going to be out at 7 pm, so he kept checking the portal “just in case”. No email came to say he was accepted, it was only on the portal.
He’s got a few friends waiting to hear…
That’s good news because I’m gonna be checking the site constantly anyway…
Anyone know when financial and merit aid info arrives, if a student is accepted?
Two years ago my son received his financial aid package with his acceptance.
4 days left guys. Anyone feeling nervous like me?
@krishna97 I’M ESSENTIALLY DYING…
@snoogleki So this is your number one school? Where else have you applied?
well co-#1 or maybe #2. Cornell is the my other DIE HARD TO GO THERE school, but so is RPI
I did a bunch of public near the east cost, a few privates but both near the east cost and most, if not all, are STEM themed
@snoogleki‌ Wow Cornell is my first choice too. Tied with Carnegie Mellon.
HEH I didn’t do CMU because I was so fed up with extra supplements I was done. I’d be happy with RPI…actually beyond happy. @Krishnak97‌
do you know if it’s a myth that RPI accepts female students more easily? (lower standard, more $,.etc)? @krishnak97
It is not a myth that females have an easier time getting admitted to engineering schools. I was one of them (not RPI). Females are essentially a URM for most engineering majors at most colleges.
My son applied ED and got his FA info at the same time he got his acceptance. Advice for your parents - the FA hits you like a ton of bricks, if this is your first child going to college.
We were disappointed that the merit aid was less than the NPC said (based on his test scores) and he will have to go into debt more than expected. Careful about merit aid vs. loans; also note that he got the RPI Medal amount in aid (but not called that), not sure how much they give over that.
