Son was accepted but for January admission…that stinks, he doesn’t want to wait and can’t say I blame him. Does anyone know if the January accepted students get Fall semester priority over waitlisted students? Only makes sense that they do.
@januarybites What you are asking seems to make sense, but I actually don’t think the Jan. admits get priority over the waitlisted kids. But not that many wait listed kids will get accepted anyway. I would have your son call and talk to his admission rep.
@seekzip The economics definitely have to be considered as studies have shown that it is what you make of the opportunity and not where you go to school that really matters. Also, for my son, he will be studying computer science and Northeastern has a separate college of computer and Information science which makes it the only other top 50 school, aside from Carnegie Mellon, that does.
The main point that I was trying to make though is the degree of professionalism seems to be very different between the two schools, which to me is an indicator of what to expect when you get there, as I don’t expect that it will get better once you have accepted.
I was accepted!
I’ll post my stats too I guess:
ACT: 34 (34M,35E,35S,31R)
GPA: 97 (out of 100)
Rank: 11 out of 420ish (it’s not as high as I want it to be, but my school doesn’t weight classes)
APs: World history (4), US history (4), physics c mechanics (TBA), calc BC (TBA), English Lang (TBA)
I also look 5 other college courses throughout high school from a local community college, the SUNY in high school program and RIT.
Extra curriculars and stuff: i run XC, indoor and outdoor track (6 years), I volunteer with stuff at church, national honor society, and some other small clubs at school
Essay: it was pretty good
Recs: I had two teachers who had me in various classes over the years. I hope they know me pretty good, since I know they had a lot of information to show that they knew me.
Gender: female
Ethnicity: white(both European and middle eastern)
State: NY
School: public (it’s just the average suburban school district)
Major: electrical engineering
Other acceptances: clarkson (honors college), Manhattan (honors college), Binghamton (honors program), northeastern, university of rochester, RIT (hopefully in honors program), buffalo (honors program)
I only applied to 8 schools and I got in all of them so yay me
@pcrg167
For the new program I got a letter a few weeks ago saying I am not being invited to interview, and they asked whether I would like to be considered for regular admission.
Hopefully you hear good news! I feel like in your case they would have mentioned a rejection, a letter hopefully will be acceptance!
Should I have him beg? RPI wasn’t the #1- WPI is, but still waiting on that. Just bums him out (which bums me out). Would have been nice to have his 2nd choice in the bag!

[ /list][ b]General Comments:[ /b] To everyone accepted, congrats! And to everyone rejected or waitlisted, DO NOT LOSE HOPE! There are so many good schools out there. You just have to believe that something good will come your way. Overall, in the entire process, don’t look at these lists as a comparison to you and your individual achievements. Use these lists to define a trend, in essence, to see the types of people that are choosing these schools. Don’t try to “copy” or be like other people just because you think you’ll get in to some specific school. If your personality and interests fit the general trend for the school, then awesome! If not, there is a place that fits for you! You just have to find it! Good Luck!!
@valarmorghulis Thanks for the feedback!
when will the guaranteed medical program results come out?
So this is the acceptance my son received. It’s very basic and no mention of specific major nor that he receives merit and he was a Medalist. I’m not sure what this means.

@ijh0828 I received the exact same letter. From what I’ve read, Rensselaer sends out info about both FA and merit scholarships to those who applied for FA approximately a week or two after the acceptance notification. Additionally, everyone who didn’t apply for a specific program is simply admitted to the general college and can choose their major after they enroll. Hope this helps.
Does the financial aid letter come in snail mail or email/portal?
Not sure, but I believe that merit scholarship info was available for those who didn’t apply for FA through the portal so maybe they’ll make it available through both snail mail and the portal.
ACCEPTED

@Frazzled503 That makes sense now that I checked back on the Common App. He wrote down undeclared Engineering since he wasn’t sure which type he was interested in. Thanks!
So quite a few people are asking about the combined RPI/AMC program. I’m not sure if the results come out in batches or all at once, but I have my interview with AMC the 30th, so if they’re like any other combined programs out there and release the results all at once the results should come out early April.
