Official sat oct 9 scores thread

I’m just hoping for a score over 2000 after scoring 1960 and 1950 my first two times

I really really really really want to get 2300. Do you think this is possible?

Reading: I put stimulant for the antidote one. I am 90% sure I didn’t miss anything else, because I can still defend my answers for the controversial questions. But, they’re still controversial, so I might be wrong. I think there were like two or three. Last time I missed three (-4) and got a 740, so kind of worrying. But I’m really hoping that I got the controversial ones right, and a -1 would be an 800, right?

Math: I skipped the 3 variable 2 equations one (x^-y or something like that). And I put 1/180. I’m almost positive I got nothing else wrong. I hope this is higher than the 740 I got last time. I’ll be happy with a 750, just hoping for good curve.

Writing: I didn’t put “NE” on the mammal question. After arguing about it for hours with my english teacher, I guess I got that wrong. Beyond that, I really don’t remember my answers. But I found writing extraordinarily easy this time, so I’ll hate myself if I got anything else wrong.

Essay: I don’t know what I got. At all. It could be a 6-11. Last time I had a three paragraph essay (I ran out of time and just added some conclusion-like sentences to my second assertion paragraph), but it had good voice, grammar, writing style, vocabulary, all that. I got an 8. This time I did do five paragraphs but they got smaller as they went along since I ran out of time; the conclusion was two sentences and didn’t really ‘conclude.’ I also didn’t do the three examples structure… I did it AP lang style, intro w/ thesis, and three assertions with examples to back them up. My first example was kind of weak, it was just like “you see graphic artists in the websites you see, in the signs etc.” I used second person some. The second one was my “personal anecdote” and it really should have been the first assertion; and I didn’t really analyze it I just said it. The third one was like “in history art always affects life” and then I used Jacob Riis’ photographs and propaganda posters and stuff like that. So I didn’t really pick three examples and expand upon them. Again my conclusion was weak. ALSO I used a blunt pencil and my handwriting got really bad near the end; I’m not sure when it’s scanned in it will be completely legible.

What do you think? If I got an 800 reading, 740 math (I can’t imagine getting lower than that) I would have to get a 760 on writing. Is this possible?

lonelywayfarer: Who knows? I could say “yes” and make you somewhat relieved, or say “no” and make you worry your ass off, but the result will still be what appears on your score report. Unless I’m mistaken, your post was made because you’re freaking out about your scores, right? Depending on so many variables (harshness of curves, possible carelessness, over/underestimate of abilities, etc.), your score could vary from 600-high 2300’s. While you want to be assured of a 2300 by total strangers, it’s irrational because only you have any idea of how well you actually did on the test.

If it makes you feel any better, I think you have a great shot at 2300. Usually people who can freak out so much that they write a 6 paragraph post get great scores, but don’t be depressed if you don’t get 2300, because 2290 is still an awesome score and comparing 2290 to 2300 is like comparing 2390 to 2400 - there’s really no difference because you’re still awesome.

LonelyWafer, so does that mean you did not put any NE on the writing section?

I don’t really care about the writing…I got a 770 last time so I’m gonna be using score choice any how :). I REALLY want a 2300+. Do you think -1 math, -5 reading, and a 770 writing will get me this?

Good luck to everyone hopefully you all get satisfiable scores.
Can we check scores at 8am EST on Thursday, October 28, 2010?

^ You can check your scores at 5am EST

Ohhh, thank goodness! Yeah, I’m international, so it’s different (: phew!
I was freaking out there lol

Thanks redemption. Yes, I know ten points doesn’t make much of a difference. But, when you’re scrolling down the page and praying 'I wish I got this much" it does. Like last time I reallyyyy wanted 2200, and got 2190. Lol. And now if I only improved like 50 points or something, that’s going to suck x.x

Besides that; I think you/other experienced SAT testers can predict your score up to a point. If you remember what you answered for questions and then go back and figure out what the right answers are, and estimate the curve, you get a pretty good idea. Give or take 10/20 points. It’s just the essay that’s so ambiguous (for me, anyway) so that’s what’s freaking me out.

AP tester: I don’t remember my answers for the writing section x.x All I remember is thinking for that question that “its ability” isn’t a reason, and I spent a few extra minutes on it, so I remember it. But I thought the writing sections this time were easy so I breezed through them so fast I don’t remember what I put. I didn’t even check how many NEs I had because I didn’t know CC went over answers over the test LOL.

^ You can check your scores at 5am EST

^ who’s getting up at 4:30?

I hope you didn’t put any, since that wouldn’t fair well. LOL

@lonely
yea i thought the writing section was especially easier this time too, but i think i already have -2. Hopefully the curve is generous because i think my essay will only receive a score of 10.

^I hope the curve is generous, as well. I need it, since math was especially hard this time (or at least I thought). My essay wasn’t that great either. Those are my two weaknesses D:

I think I got a 11 or a 12 on the essay. If I get either of those scores, I will post my essay pics. I prepared an essay beforehand from one of the real tests, and a similar topic showed up on the october’s SAT.

a few days ago when it was exactly seven days before results, i had a dream that greatly resembled what happened in the ring. i got a phone call in my dream and a strange voice said 7 days and hung up. now its 4 days. -1W -3CR -1M were all the errors i caught.

I’m scared to see my essay score…
What score do you guys think I’ll get if I wrote everything except my conclusion?
I simply ran out of time…

^not more than a 9

^^ actually, a person whom I know scored a 10. She didn’t write a conclusion b/c she ran out of time. But her essay was looooonnnnggg. (1 3/4 pgs)

^^ okay, as long as I get an 8, I’ll be happy.
^ I probably won’t get a ten, then, because my essay was only about 1 1/2 pages, I think.

Yeah, the longer your essay is, the higher score you’ll likely get. Of course, you can’t write a bunch of useless/irrelevant content that’s full of mistakes and still get a good score. Without a conclusion, you’ll likely get around 9.

It sucks that admission officers have access to our SAT essay-yikes.

I hope my essay wasn’t too bad. I wrote almost 2 full pages, I think with maybe 1 line left over.
