Official SAT Study Guide (2016 Edition) (Official Study Guide for the New Sat) Out for delivery!

I just checked my Amazon orders, the New Official SAT Study Guide is out for delivery and it’ll be here before 8:00 pm <:-P

DD got her Amazon pre-order today!

Aww man, you beat me to the thread! Anyway, I just got mine. How do you feel about it? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not happy, granted I just thumbed through it but I didn’t see anything that wasn’t already available on line. Huge let down!

Are the four practice tests in the book the same as the ones on Khan Academy?

Yeah…I waited over 6 months for 160 pages of how to not freak out about the test xD. Seriously, over about 160 pages before any practice problems.

I’m scared that they might be, could you do a comparison?

I don’t have the book yet (I’m considering getting it, but don’t want to get it if the practice tests are already available.)

Here’s the link for the Khan Academy tests (pdf form): https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/new-sat/new-sat-tips-planning/new-sat-how-to-prep/a/full-length-sats-to-take-on-paper

Could you take a look at the first page of each test, or the essay prompts, and see if they’re identical to the ones in the Official SAT Study Guide Book? @Eiriss

PDFs of all 4 tests in this book can also be downloaded for free at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/practice/full-length-practice-tests.

@xiggi
You’re right. Just read through the Amazon reviews, and all of the reviewers were disappointed.

Could any of you post the raw score chart when you guys get the books?

I took a practice PSAT test and CB doesn’t have a score conversion tool yet.

I’m assuming the official practice tests come with raw score chart?

EDIT
CB DOES NOT include a raw score conversion chart in their new official blue book because the new sat hasn’t been administered yet.
Quite disappointing… I thought they said they would release a score conversion tool by the June of 2015 a while back.
They changed “June of 2015” to “summer of 2015”. Wow lol

What a scam.

Yup, just confirmed the 4 tests being the same…

Why is CB selling the Book when you can get the same 4 tests free on the CB website? That doesn’t make any sense.

Any thoughts on the 4 sample tests in new SAT CB Book?

  1. Reading: Easier than the old SAT CR, but still on the harder side compared to the ACT.
  2. Math: No calculator section sucks. I pity the students who rely on calculators.
  3. Writing: carbon copy of ACT English.
  4. Essay: Disaster! It’s a combination of Reading Comprehension and Essay. Way more work involved now!

Trust me, the essays are really built around college readiness now. Those type of essays will be what you see later on.

I don’t see why anyone expected any different from the CB! This meager offering is consistent with their current blue book which managed somehow to reign supreme on the best seller list without any new content for a span of ten years. You all need to realize that the CB (in spite of their proclamations) will never supply you with the volumes of fresh new material you are all looking for. For that, you will need to look elsewhere: expect a flood of imitation tests coming on the market in the next 12 months - some good, some bad.

I’m a rising Junior, and I’ll most likely be using the new SAT Blue Book to qualify for national merit (for the PSAT)… Does the book include anything besides the four practice tests? A review of the material tested would be nice. I’m also taking the old SAT and preparing for the October test of that, so I won’t be dedicating too much effort to this. Hopefully I can pull through with a 215 (my state’s cut-off last year) :stuck_out_tongue:

Save your money and just use Khan Academy, seriously the new Blue book has “practice at Khan Academy” on almost every page of the book (except on the practice exams that are the same ones that are on line) some times even multiple times on one page.

@LucidGman The book probably does have some basic tips, but nothing significant to you if you’ve already taken a test like that before. Like 3scoutsmom said, you’d be better off using Khan Academy, as it gives you tons of practice, which will be more helpful.
