Official SAT Subject Test - Biology E/M - June 2015

Is it better to have a higher score on BIO e or m? What percentile is a 780 on BIO E?

800 Bio M!!! Only used Kaplan :3

@vmiller7723 im pretty sure m is harder than e… until 2 wrong is 800 and 3 wrong is 790 so i guess 4~5 wrong would be 780?

720 for Biology E

I’ve only had Honors Bio, but I took the test anyway since I won’t be taking AP until Senior year.
My school is pretty terrible so I was surprised. I had to learn all of organismal biology and human anatomy/physiology myself. I studied from Barron’s.

Should I bother retaking?

800!! The highest I ever got on a barons practice test was a 720 even with AP bio and Bio H lol

Hey @CollageWhat , we’re exactly in the same boat. 700 (!).

I also thought the test was harder, but I’m pretty pleased with my score.

Does anyone know if colleges look at your score within the context of when you took the course? I took biology two years ago, so I’m wondering if that will have any bearing on how they look at my score.

Does anyone know or have a feeling of what the curve for this test is? Would help a BUNCH! Thanks

@Emin1239 Hey congrats on your score! I was just wondering if you studied anything else than Barron’s because I got 720 on Barron’s but 700 on the actual test lol. Also what edition did you have for the Barron’s?

I was hoping for a minimum score of 600, and I really wanted to get a 650 or higher.

Biology E- 650
I thought that was a pretty good score, considering that this is my first SAT test, I am only in ninth grade, I only took Honors Biology, and I only studied for a total of five days.
I am definitely going to retake it.

800 M. Was really happy because I was expecting a 790 (-3.75). I wonder which I didn’t miss…

… i hate my life. i thought i did decently, maybe get at least slightly more than 700, but i got 680 M. im probably gonna have to retake but this is so disappointing. i’m gonna have to restudy all over again, plus other subject tests to study for next year. WHY. I’ve even taken honors bio AND AP Bio, studied from barrons and princeton’s review. i guess im just not good at memorizing. and this is irrelevant but my parents are frikin annoying, blaming me for not studying hard enough. ._. i just wanna hurl something out of a window

@maruthepup Your life sounds exactly like mine rn. I got the same score as u :((

@DasDania omg sigh i feel you. im gonna die next year U G H. if you’re planning to retake next year too i wish you luck ;-; im just like staring into space thinking, ., what’s the point of life.??

I walked out so concerned and was hoping for high 600s. Guess I sweated it way to much. 800!

@RunforPineapples how did you manage to get a 800? I really need some advice. I took the test and got a 600. I studied Barron’s for a whole month and made so many flashcards, but I didn’t do so well. :frowning:

I got an 800 as well.

My suggestions:
-Take AP Bio if you can because it will really solidify what you need to know
-Read Princeton Review over first because it has most of what you need to know. Then take a few practice tests and use Barron’s to fill in some blanks.

Note for future test takers:

Hey ya’ll  so I took it in June and got an 800. Honestly, I don’t think reading Barrons over and over again will help, nor will reading Princeton over and over again. I recommend that you take an AP biology class and actually pay attention in class, because most of the test was application of concepts and not direct memorization from textbooks. Last minute cramming doesn’t work unless you truly understand the material, so if you understand it, then feel free to cram because it will help. However, not knowing biology and just reading Barrons is not enough (I think, but people here have proven me wrong).

Don’t use any Barron’s practice tests, because honestly, they’re terrible and misleading. I recommend going on Quizlet and just searching biology.

Good luck!

@ayyyyyyy Yeah I also took a couple princeton review tests but honestly I think the reason I did so much better on the real test is because the material on it was more consistent with what I had learned in AP bio/bio H than Barrons was

I usually don’t comment on these types of things but I felt like sharing - I was so sure that I would score in the 600’s because I had taken all the practice tests I could find (Barron’s, Princeton Review, random online one) and consistently scored in the 600s, even after studying and taking them under test-taking conditions. I had read all these posts saying that the practice tests were pretty accurate score-wise, so I got really discouraged. I opened my College Board account this morning expecting the worst but lo and behold, 790 in Biology M, which I could not believe. To be honest, (please don’t judge me hehe) I started crying because I was so relieved and overjoyed. Frankly, I think it was a miracle because I have no idea how that could have happened.

Hey guys, I got a 770 on this test. I also took chemistry and got a 770 as well. The thing is, I only need to send one of these scores to the college, as I have another subject test that I scored better on. Do you guys recommend sending the bio or the chem test? Which one would you think would look better?
