Official SAT Subject Test - Chemistry - June 2015

@picuberoot 750 on the diagnostic, 800 on the first test and 800-790-ish on the second test. That TFCE advice a few threads ago on CC REALLY helped.

Could you recap what it said… I cant find it… Also I have taken a few practice tests and sometimes the TTCE section has 15 questions and other times it has 16. What is the actual number of TTCE on the test?

Sadly, on my diagnostic test I scored 480 and that’s only because it was middle of the year and I was only halfway through my basic chemistry course. Now I think I can score higher after reading the barrons book, but it’s gonna be tough.

I got a 600 on my diagnostic test, Its not that normal for people to get great scores on it. In my case i took without any prep or knowledge of what the test is like so naturally myTTCE section was botched but thats what diagnostics are for… supposed to figure out what you need to study.

Yea that was same for me. Like I didn’t know what the heck CE stood for until I read the description above lol. @dminzi You’re a sophomore or junior?

@dminzi, @YoohooAddict, other people, I’ve just bumped the thread. I’ll just copy the revelant parts here:

“Also, what I found helpful, was going down the left column of the page and ONLY reading those. Then do the right column. If any of the questions are so far True and True, then read the whole thing again and decide if it’s CE. This way you don’t get distracted.”

Credit to lolcat4. My score did a giant bump the moment I apply that method. I was unused to the TFCE section, too and got, like, over half of it wrong at first. And then I read that advice, and I only get about 2-3 wrong now. Mwhahahahaha. Seriously, s/he totally saved my life.
Baron’s tests have 16 questions in that section.

@Synonyms Thanks for the tip. What are you scoring currently on tests?

@YoohooAddict I haven’t done any more Chem test yet because I’m trying to catch up with the Math ones this week. So the tally is still like before:
PR: 790, 790.
McCrawhill’s: 690 (diagnostic).
Baron’s: 750 (diagnostic), found the advice, 800, 800-790-ish.

@Synonyms Nice scores. Good luck.

Thanks. Good luck to you, too.

Barrons’ raw scores
Diagnostic: 43
Test 1: 53
Test 3: 60
Test 4: 71!!!

I’ve never trusted the curves Barron’s provides so I always like to keep my scores as raw scores.

I’m taking the first test today sometime. I just finished reading the book. That lab section was weird and confusing lol.

True/False section

If you know one of the statements is definitely true but you have no clue about the other statement there are a few ways to increase your chances of getting it right.

  1. If you think KNOW that if the second statement, if true, will justify the first statement (T,T CE), then it is most likely that the answer is T T CE. However, if you know the second statement if true, will NOT justify the first statement (T T) then it is more likely that the second statement is false (T F). This works really well on the hard questions which you have no clue about.
  2. If you cannot apply tip 1 to the question, there is still some hope. Statistically, if you only know the first statement is definitely true but you have absolutely no clue about the second statement validity and/or you don't even understand what its stating (it happens sometimes ) then you'll have a greater chance of getting the answer correct if you choose (T,F).

There is a simple explanation:

So if first one is definitely true then probability of (T,F) is 50%, (T,T) is 25% and (T,T CE) is 25%.

  1. You'll usually have at least 2 (T,T CE) answers in any given test. If you have 0 or 5 then something is most likely wrong. "

Do you guys know where I can find what the colors of the precipitates of the important solutions are?

Like what type of solutions? I might be able to tell you from what’s provided in the Barrons book.

I took AP Chem this year and now I have the Barrons’ book as prep. Is Barrons adequate enough in going over material that wasn’t covered in AP? (colligative properties, molality, descriptive chemistry, nuclear, etc.)

Can someone please explain this solved problem from Barron’s? Colligative properties-Page 157 Q 1,2
Other books use delT=Kbt where Kb value is given, but barron doesnt seem to give any other information.

"The boiling point change is 0.12 C …
Why is the original bp taken as 100C?

So, i forgot Water boils at 100C (im an idiot), but still not sure which formula to use

Man I just took a practice test for Barrons and got a raw score of 48. I feel so stupid… I really wanna score higher than 700 on the real test and this raw score according to barrons is between 650 and 680.

I took a PR test and scored around 710-730. Is that a good score…Not sure how PR reflects the actual test.
