Official SAT Subject Test - Physics - June 2015

Will I have time to retake in November before applications are due?

My son only had a regular HS physics class and took the test. He did look through the prep book for a few hours prior to the test. He scored ok comparing to 800 for math 2 and 35 for ACT. Physics is hard without AP class.

Correction, the SAT Subject Test in Physics is hard without INTENSE STUDYING w/ a prep book. After the removal of AP Physics B, no singular Physics course in high school covers anything remotely close to all the topics on the subject test.

What is the best prep book for SAT physics? Are any released test out there?

I bombed it and got a 700, will this score be the difference between admission and rejection? i got a 780 in US which is more closely related to my intended major.

Curve for SAT physics?

An AP class is not needed for any SAT subject test. For physics in particular, all the AP classes will not cover the breadth required for the SAT Subject test.

@skieurope So you think someone who takes a regular (college prep), say, U.S. History class is as well prepared as someone who took APUSH? Really?

@Kyuutoryuu I don’t agree with skieurope. I think that even if AP doesn’t cover all the material, it covers the stuff it does in greater detail.

I was not expressing an opinion; I was stating a fact. An individual student may feels that s/he wants the added preparation of an AP class, but s/he does not need it. In the case of US History:

To keep it on topic with physics:

Of, course, a large part of that depends upon the quality of the teaching. A strong teacher of college prep USH outweighs a weak teacher of APUSH. In most cases, a student will be well served to review topics on his/her own outside of class to prepare for the test.

Well yeah, by that logic nobody “needs” to take an AP course even to get a 5 on the corresponding AP exam, just self-study. But for both Subject tests and AP Exams, taking an AP course in the subject helps significantly.

@Kyuutoryuu I agree with you.

I’m taking AP Physics 1 next year along with the SAT Physics Test. I have a couple of questions:
*How did you guys self study for the second part of the SAT Test?
*Did you use a prep book (like Barron’s) or a textbook? Which prep books do you recommend?
*What textbooks did you guys use and did it prepare you well with the conceptual/memorization questions?

@specter97 Hello. Do you have the barrons physics 11th edition?

@ammoopi hey, congrats on your 800! may I ask how did you study and what prep materials did you use?
