Wash U is better than UMich

I'll say this for Michigan. It has awesome grad schools (business, law, medical, grad) and a strong engineering program. I would say even the school of music and kinesiology are decent as well. LSA, the general undergraduate college, doesn't hold a candle to top universities. Take that with a grain of salt. Science majors/pre-med is exceedingly tough at Michigan, more so than many other schools. As a public school, there will be plenty of big classes and red tape. What I've said is bound to spark controversy. I say let the discourse begin.

Stanford_dude, I am actually not going to bother with this one. If admitted students have questions or concerns about Michigan, they are free to ask them on this forum, but such a debate on this thread won't solve anything.

darkamaranth88, I did not mean to say Wash U is "clearly weaker". Wash U is a great school in its own right. I do believe that Michigan is better, but that really depends on one's personal preferences.

I dont want to get into the whole WUSTL thing, but UM clearly better? That doesn't even make sense. They are certainly peer institutions.

UM is clearly weaker than WUSTL and any other schools you are considering.

thread digression (and the issue is debatable)

I've started a new thread on this topic.

Friend got an LSA scholarship

GPA: 4.0 unweighted
Rank: 3 / 241
ACT: 32
SAT: none
AP: A 3 in AP Physics B, I think (that or a 2, or he didn't take the test, but I assume he took it, and I know he didn't get a 4).
Race: Hispanic
In-state

How much was the LSA scholarship, sonar?

LSA scholarship for in-staters is 10K per year

I don't thnk those stats would be worthy of an OOS LSA Scholarship. I had better ACT and ranking, but then again I'm white so that might have played into it also.

it's in-state.^

Yes Lady, I read that part. I was simply remarking to those reading this thread not to get their hopes up if they're OOS, because though it is clearly worthy of an IS LSA scholarship, it probably would not earn an OOS LSA scholarship, especially for a non-minority applicant.
