chattykathy, i didn’t get in yet they just notified me that my app was received. also thanks for the email about this thread!

benjofilm -

I went on the SCA website to confirm and it does say admissions@cinema.usc.edu but when I click the link it gives me cntv-admissions@cinema.usc.edu… I guess I’ll try one and if it doesn’t work I’ll try the other.

@dreamupsided0wn Don’t email cntv-admissions@cinema.usc.edu !!! I did that and it doesn’t work. I told them about the issue but they didn’t fix it. admissions@cinema.usc.edu is safe.

@benjofilm

dang, I already emailed them… I’ll send the email to the right one now then. Thanks so much. :D

Where else are you applying?

@dreamupsided0wn no problem. I’m applying to USC, NYU, UCLA, and I already got into Chapman. What about you?

@BenjoFilm

I applied to USC, NYU, UCLA, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, and Wisconsin-Madison. The only one I’ve heard back from is Madison and I got in but I don’t really want to go there. I feel like I should have applied to more schools within my state too. Oh well.

@Keely- I can’t tell for certain but she’s in the class of '13 group so I’m assuming she did.

@Dream- You should try calling. I’ve talked to them on the phone a few times and they are very helpful. They even acknowledged receipt of a LOR I sent that shows as not received on my online documents.

@dreamupsided0wn Yeah, I should have applied to more schools, too… What were your film applications like? Do you have any links to vids?

@wghiller - I’m terrified of calling them… whenever I have to talk to strangers my voice goes up about an octave and I sound like a 12-year-old. My friends have told me that it’s really weird and off-putting. I don’t want them to think I’m whiny and annoying just because my voice is. XD

@BenjoFilm - I didn’t submit any videos but I did the six photo option… my photos weren’t that great, in retrospect. My portfolio list was pretty long though and mostly focused on theatre because that’s all I do. I thought my film review was decent (I reviewed HBO’s John Adams). My dialogue scene between two people was pretty terrible. I’m kind of proud of my personal statements for both CS and P, though. Except for the part where I accidentally wrote that I was applying to CS in the P one… oops. Overall I guess I have a better chance of getting into CS. :P

Which ones did you do?

@dreamupsided0wn My visual sample is earlier in this thread. I did the four minute, silent film writing option. I liked that but I’m starting to second guess my personal statement. My portfolio list had a lot of film on it, but I don’t know if they care about that. I also do theatre! so that was on there… But my grades aren’t too stellar because, like I imagine many film applicants are, I’m always busy doing film and theatre!

@BenjoFilm same! my grades aren’t too stellar either… but my test scores are good. I hope the portfolio has a LOT of weight on the decision. I’ve actually read a lot of USC Theatre people’s posts and they tend to have relatively low GPAs because the audition is more important. At another school I applied to (I think it was Carnegie Mellon) they full out said that the audition/portfolio for their art/theatre schools is worth 50-80% of the decision.

AHHHH! SCAdmissions just emailed me back:

"Your Critical Studies file has been sent to committee for review.

Best,

USC School of Cinematic Arts"

They wrote you back already? Wow. I sent an e-mail to my admissions counselor last Wednesday and haven’t heard back yet.

Yeah, I sent the email at 12:55 and they responded at 1:53… definitely speedy. Maybe it was because my question was really simple.

Ok I’m going to try e-mailing that address directly, lol.

@dream Yeah my test scores are good too. 32 ACT. GPA, not so much. I know NYU does 50/50 portfolio weight but I’m hoping USC is heavily portfolio biased…

@BenjoFilm yeah it’s hard to tell since there are so few applicants that actually get into SCA and they never give out any numbers.

Aghhh! I emailed them today and got the same thing:

your file has been sent to the committee for review.

I e-mailed them and got a response in 4 minutes! They told me to check back early next week to check the status of my application.
