What dorm should i stay at?

By fall 08 ill be 21 =), what is the drinking policy in the dorms?

There are alot of dorms to stay in there. They have apartment style dorms that are for any student and apartment style dorms that are just for upperclassman. But you have to pay for your own utilities and there are no meal plans. There are two or three style dorms that are like that and they are pretty close to fraternity row but away from the majority of the other dorms. Cuicacalli is a suite style dorm you share with 8-9 other people. This dorm is nice, four rooms a living room and a kitchen, but is less social than other dorms. Zura, also known as the zoo, is really social but inside is pretty run down compared to others. Tenocha is nicer and is still very social, and is by the other dorms. Chapultepec is right by the ARC (aztec recreation center) but away from the other dorms. It just got remolded and has nice furniture in it. Its still very social. Side note: Chappultepec, Zura, and Tenocha are all traditional dorms and the most popular for kids to pick.

Drinking Policy: If you are of legal age you can bring alcohal in the dorms, but there is no smoking in the dorms or withing two hundred feet of any open door or window. SD is pretty easy on the alcohol policies, it is party central after all.
Hope i helped, hit me up if you need any more answers. PEEEEAAACCE!

I have also spoke to the office of admissions and records and a rep told me that the decisions are being sent out in batches each day and that everybody with im guessing an exception of internationals and out of states will know by March 1.

I just found out last night that I got accepted!! I'm so excited. :)
I'm transferring from a California Community College. I'll be 20 and a Junior in Fall '08!!

Do upper class students usually live on campus or off campus?

Congrats to all who got accepted!!!!

Congrats to you! Well by the time students at sdsu are upperclassman, they usually know people that they can move out with. There are certain dorms that upperclassman are only aloud to get. All around the sdsu area there are rooms available if you dont want to stay on campus. I would say that about 30-35 percent are upperclassman at the dorms. Its a great way to meet people. If you want to meet a ton of people, stay at the dorms. Not that you wont meet a ton of peeps outside of the dorms

Oh ok that's helpful..thanx.
I was worried because I do want to meet a lot of people and thought that living in dorms might be a good idea, I just didnt want to get stuck with underclassmen, no offense. Does SDSU have on campus housing/apartments that are not dorms?

GPA 3.96
Major: Geography
Age: non-traditional
(Caveat: I'm still waiting to hear from UC Berkeley, so I might end up there instead.)

I'll most likely live off-campus, but I considered living on-campus since I would be moving to SD from SF. There are regular apartments available through the campus. The open house is on March 3. I found the info on the housing website, but I did have to dig a bit.

Anyone know much about the Geography department at SDSU?

I think there are three sets of different apartments offered to sdsu upperclassman and one or two of those is offered to underclassman as well as upperclassman. Other than those that are offered to just upperclassman, upperclassman have their pick of any dorm that they want at the school.

This is what I was talking about:

"Piedra Del Sol Apartments (PdS) are an option for returning SDSU students looking for independent apartment-style living. Preference is given to graduate and upper class students."

I know it says "returning" SDSU students, but it might be worth it to look into it as a transfer student. It is kind of hard to find on the SDSU website, so here is the link:

I'm from INDIA. i got admit for sdsu in MS in CS for fall 2008. can you help me out with details like jobs for living in sdsu and housing which are cheaper.
Thank you!

PDS apartments are hard to get for juniors, its mostly taken up by seniors since they have priority.

if you transfer, i would consider living in UT, Aztec Corner, or Va rather in the dorms. Alcohol policy is dependent upon your RA but if your 21 you can drink it in your room only by yourself. Can't have any minors around.

Although their are parties, cops are always looking out to bust you. Just don't be stupid. Don't supply alcohol to minors, drink in public, or on the beaches (new law).

Does anyone know if transfers live in the halls? I was kinda considering it, just because I thought it would be a fun way to meet a lot of people. The only drawback in potentially sharing a room with somebody, (i've never shared a room before) I was also considering the suites over the apartments because I thought it was more social and fun then the apartments (they seem too far away.) What does everyone think????????

Oh and I am a transfer...will be a junior in Fall '08.

Thanx :)

there are a few older students in the dorms. but most of the time you either feel left out because everyone is so young or you get put in a floor where majority are transfer and everyone will be doing there own thing.

if you want to go that route, its your choice but majority transfer live in apts. I had some friends that said it wasn't so bad, you do meet people just not as much compared to the dorms.

Oh ok yeah thanx :)

I think the suites or the apts. is what im leaning more towards :/

Just got accepted into the University Honors Program.
GPA 3.98
SAT 2098

Good for you. Congrats. Good Luck.

hi calgal,
my daugher (out of state) was also accepted into the honor's program..are you considering the honor's dorm or another one.. thanks..

i live in piedra del sol right now as a 2nd year junior (33 units of AP credit). I personally do not like piedra, the single rooms are way too small, unless you get the double room

I've heard that zura and tenochca are more social because there are so many people per floor, but is there really a lot to do in dorm rooms? It seems like if you were in a cuicacalli suite you could have more people in one room, my friend even told me he had 50 people in his suite at once. I'm just wondering because i dont want to be a hermit in a suite but it seems more convenient to be in one.
