Decision: REJECTED

Stats:[ul]
[li] SAT: 2140 M-740 R-730 W-670[/li][li] SAT IIs: USHistory-740 Chemistry-770 MathIIC-680[/li][li] GPA: **3.98[/li][li] **Rank: **9/229[/li][li] **ACT: **31 [/li][li] **Other stats: Took 5 APs up to this point, 4 on four of them, 3 on one. This may have looked bad... was totally expecting at least 5's on three of them.
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[li] Essays: Hella Risky... I did them entirely on my own so maybe some errors, but people have told me they were "good" risks. If you want to see my risky essays, PM me or email me. I used one of them as a newspaper article for my school paper, and everybody loved it. But I have a feeling these may have flopped... ;o[/li][li] Teacher Recs: Probably Excellent - my teachers love me and one says I'm one of the brightest he's ever taught = good sign for rec[/li][li] Counselor Rec: Probably very good -- I hope she mentioned I have the hardest schedule in senior class... would be rank 1 with weighted ;o[/li][li] Hook (if any): Very involved in church, leading everything - serving in National Presbyterian General Assembly this summer as Youth Delegate.
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[li] State or Country: Oregon[/li][li] School Type: Public[/li][li] Ethnicity: Korean[/li][li]** Gender:** Male
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: Senior class president, senate president, tennis captain, model UN president, praise leader, bible study leader, Presby. GA delegate, newspaper editor, bowling team, tutor, NHS, soccer, ... yeah...
General Comments: Meh... my test scores could be better -- I was scoring 800's on practice Math SATI's and IIC's but couldn't pull it on test day. Oh well. Also took the ACT with 2 hours of prep total... could have easily pulled that to a 33-34, I think. Oh well. On to wait for Princeton, but if that's rejection, I'll go UPenn, which is pretty sweet still ;D

Decision: ACCEPTED

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2290; M760 R770 W760

Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Bad, kind of last minute
[] Teacher Recs: 3 really good ones
[] Counselor Rec: Excellent
[] Hook (if any): MITES Summer Program

I don't want to keep other universities I've been accepted in on a hold and miss their deadlines. When will Stanford inform me of their decision!?

Rejected.
No surprise really.. stats were low, although I thought I had one or two strong essays.

* Ethnicity: South Asian
* Gender: Male

Other Factors:

* Extracurriculars: Spelling Bee (heavily involved/awards), NHS VP, hundreds of hours of volunteering, and some others.
* Why I think I was rejected: Not sure. I even sent an update/intent letter to them. Strong activities/interest in spelling, unusual, etc. Not enough for them apparently. I think my grades and SAT IIs and rank kept me out. It's all right; God meant for me to be somewhere else.
* Other thoughts: Good luck to those waitlisted and congrats to those accepted. To those rejected, it is truly Stanford's loss not yours. You have many other schools who would love to have you.

Dear (Name),

We have just completed our review of this year's applications for admission to Stanford, and we would like to offer you a place on our waiting list. Although we cannot offer you admission at this time, I want to assure you that any student we place on our waiting list is someone who has shown great promise, whom we would like to be able to admit if space becomes available.

Historically, the number of students we have admitted from the waiting list has ranged from none to nearly 100. In only our third year of Single-Choice Early Action, we do not know precisely the number of students admitted early who will choose to enroll at Stanford, making it difficult for us to predict how many of our waitlisted students will ultimately be offered admission. Typically, though, we do fill the final spots in our class through the waiting list, and we anticipate doing the same this year. You also may be interested to know that we do not rank students on our waiting list. When we find we can make additional offers of admission, we review all the applicants on the waiting list again.

In the coming days, you will receive your official waitlist offer as well as all the materials necessary to accept a place on our waiting list. I hope this letter will answer your detailed questions about the waiting list process at Stanford. If you have further questions after you have reviewed these materials, please feel welcome to contact our office.

With best wishes,

Richard H. Shaw
Dean of Admission and Financial Aid
