[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Who can really say? I tried reallyyyy hard :([/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: First off, CONGRATULATIONS to all acceptees - you are truly amazing people; I have gotten to know a few of you. Enjoy Stanford (you will!!!). Originally, I was mega sad about my deferral, but after seeing the stats of everyone else who was deferred/rejected, I'm starting to feel very thankful. To everyone who was qualified and awesome but didn't get what they wanted: HANG IN THERE! Keep your head up high! (I know - hackneyed/lame...) You're pretty much going to love the college you end up attending. As for me, I'm going to take the advice of the deferral e-mail and "pursue other college alternatives," although I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed (KNOTTED) that Stanford takes me the second time around.....

Everybody I know has gotten rejected by stanford.

THIS IS SO DEPRESSING.

Damn am i the only Asian male NOT rejected...

accept or defer if you don't mind me asking and stats?

edit: nvm, found you a few pages back :D

Decision: REJECTED

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2360 (writing 760, single sitting)
[] SAT IIs: 790 Bio M, 760 Chem, 770 Math IIC
[] GPA: 4.0 Unweighted, took all highest level classes.
[] Rank: 1/170ish, shared by several
[] Other stats: 5 AP Calc BC, 5 AP English Lang, 5 AP Spanish Lang, 5 AP Chinese, 4 AP Art History (self-studied), 5 AP Euro, 5 AP US History, 5 AP Psych (self-studied)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Common App essay: wrote about an art piece I did to a David Bowie song. I got good feedback from my teachers, but I guess the admissions officers didn't like it? intellectual essay was about an engineering research thing I did at CSULB
[] Teacher Recs: My teachers seemed happy/enthusiastic enough to write for me.
[] Counselor Rec: My counselor likes/respects me.
[] Hook (if any): uh...
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Southern CA
[] School Type: Public, but competitive entrance. ranked #10 in US News, not that that means a thing.
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[li] Gender: Female[/li][/ul]Other Factors:I sent in a drawing/painting supplement and a violin music supplement.
Volunteering at Chinese old folks home by playing violin at them, spaceset art dept, engineering research intern at Cal State long beach, the COSMOS summer program from UC Irvine. Violin, certificate of merit, national merit semifinalist, ap scholar, gosh, the rest of this feels meaningless since it got me nothing. i won't bother to finish typing.
General Comments: I guess Stanford doesn't need another Chinese girl who likes to draw but wants to be an engineer. I was hoping my writing would pull me through, since I had considered that a strength for me. My biggest weakness is probably lack of 'leadership.' Or maybe the admissions officers hate David Bowie.
Well, to comfort myself I'll just think about the railroad tycoon Stanford and how he exploited poor working farmers, etc...

congratulations to those who passed the hatchet!

Okay, after reading this thread and asking people from all the schools around my area, this seriously has become a Stanford Slaughter....

This year's EA acceptance is just pure ridiculousness. There's no way that like 80% of the people with SAT 2300+ got rejected outright from Stanford.

After skimming through a couple of these, I'm wondering how I got accepted...

*Decision: ACCEPTED *

[] Rank: 1/~510
[] Other stats: 6x5's, 2x4's, 1x3 on AP exams
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I really didn't like my essays much... I didn't spend that much time on them.
[] Teacher Recs: Probably awesome.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably pretty good.
[] Hook (if any): first-gen

General Comments:
Haha after looking at so many of these, I can finally post my own. Shame its not green though. Took me forever to get this format working.... Learned some web coding in the process...... BUT................... APRIL here I come!

2240 SAT, 730 MII, 760 Bio, 790 Chem
5 AP Bio, 5 AP Psych, 5 AP Chem
US citizen living in India

i can't believe this. it's as good as being rejected... :'(

Being accepted obviously makes me feel good.........but i'm no fool. My urm status CLEARLY did the job. Dont get me wrong, I worked hard beyond belief to even have a chance at this but seeing 2300 after 2300 after perfect ap scores after prestigious awards get rejected left and right....... my heart goes out to you all. It really doesnt change who you are.

Im thankful for this opportunity, and I will make the most of it because of the amazing people like you who, if anything, deserve it more.

All right, what have we learned from this, kids?

SAT scores don't mean anything. Stop wasting your essays on one of your extracurricular activities you've done, or whatever. This is your chance to "wow" the admission officers, use it. Tell them how unique you are, a life experience, and/or what really sets you apart from others.

Better luck next time!

Also, Stanford has the philosophy of trying to give as many as possible definitive decisions during SCEA -- this results in many more being denied rather than deferred. Most of the other schools have a much larger percentage of deferrals. From their website:

Restrictive Early Action : Stanford University

3 Possible Restrictive Early Action Admission Decisions

Applicant is admitted and has until May 1 to respond to the admission offer

Applicant is denied and can not reapply for Regular Decision admission in the same year

Applicant is deferred to the Regular Decision round, where he/she will receive a final decision by April 1

Stanford’s philosophy is to make final decisions whenever possible, so the vast majority of Restrictive Early Action applicants receive one of the first two decisions noted above.

mohitthukral, did you apply for financial aid? and ysbera, did you apply for financial aid too?

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2340 single sitting
[] SAT IIs: 770, 760
[] GPA: 4.0
[] Rank: top 1-3%; school does not rank
[] Other stats: National AP scholar, National Merit SF, national/local art awards, national/local/school-wide writing awards and publications, national/state/local science and research awards, worked at a lab for 3 years, four other leadership positions I am very committed to, 1 varsity sport, 2 instruments
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: should have been okay...
[] Teacher Recs: good
[] Counselor Rec: decent
[] Hook (if any): research? But every Asian does that...
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: NJ
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[li] Gender: female[/li][/ul]Other Factors: applied for financial aid
General Comments: .... I'm disappointed; I thought I would have a decent chance; I thought I did everything "right." But hopefully I have chances at other top schools.

lol seems that so many asians are getting rejected ><
