<p>LaCateBoy, do you have any major "hooks"?</p>
<p>Yeah, URM and I went to the summer college this past summer. My essay's were pretty impactful too. Oh and for the summer college thing i fundraised a loott of money in order so i could go.</p>
<p>bump 10 chars … just for the sake of preparing ourselves for the biggest Stanford Massacre ever in the history of Stanford Massacres. It may even be known as the Stanford Annihilation. </p>
<p>good luck to us RD’ers … we’ll need it!</p>

<p>**But life will move on and I will survive without Stanford. <a href=“And%20obviously%20Stanford%20will%20survive%20without%20me,%20just%20stating%20the%20obvious”>/b</a></p>
<p>Eight hours, guys! It’s almost over :)</p>
<p>Frankly, I won’t be that devastated if the reject me, cause I already have my eyes set on Rice w/great merit aid.</p>
<p>^Eight hours?! And yesssss, I also got into Rice with good merit aid! <3</p>
<p>I got a full ride to UW-Madison, so Stanford is basically the only school that could sway me from that offer…</p>
<p>Yay Modulation Engineering?</p>
<p>Good luck everyone !!!</p>
<p>i didn’t notice this until now, and to get hyped up for regular decision, i figured i’d to this.</p>
<p>Stats:</p>
<pre><code>* Fee Waiver Used?: No
- SAT I (by section): 790 W, 780 CR, 770 M
- SAT IIs: 790 MII, 780 USH, 760 Phys, 750 Lit, 740 Spanish
- GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: 3.97 unweighted (damn you alg II), 5.25 weighted
- Rank: 3/432
- ACT: 34
- APs (including this year’s): 14 in all, that i don’t feel like listing. have taken the exam for calc ab, bc, physics b, ap euro, and environmental science and got 5s on all.
- Senior Yr Courseload: 9 APS, and Honors English IV
- Number of Apps from Your School: 3, one of whom got in already on a sports scholarship. bah.
- Other stats (Awards, etc.): National merit finalist, quiz bowl state regional champion, state champ in a few geography contests, ap scholar, blah blah, nothing REALLY phenomenal
</code></pre>
<p>Subjective:</p>
<pre><code>* ECs listed on app: Quiz bowl, sci oly, beta club, nat honors, nothing crazy.
- Job/Work Experience: I am an accountant.
- Essays (subject and responses): 3 stanford-specific ones were kinda boring, but the common app one was bizarre and ended with a digression on hive minds; i thought it would either make or break the whole hting but it obviously neither made nor broke because I got deferred.
- Teacher Recs:One awesome, one mediocre
- Counselor Rec: Counselor made it very obvious that we had never spoken before lol
- Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): –
- Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): My additional information section was full of kind of quirky stuff (for example, a section in which the admissions officer reading is asked to fill out a questionnaire about THEMSELVES instead of losing their identity in a sea of applicants). It was because of this additional info section that Duke says they gave me a full-ride merit, but Stanford thus far seems nonplussed.
</code></pre>
<p>Location/Person:</p>
<pre><code>* State or Country: North Carolina
- School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Public
- Ethnicity: Caucasian
- Gender: Male
- Income Bracket: Middle
- Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): At least I’m not asian. (sorry guys, you got a raw deal, college-wise)
- Strengths: Test scores, essay
- Weaknesses: Extracurriculars and 2/3 recommendations are sub-par.
- Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Stanford is Stanford and there are a billion other people with stats just as good, not a urm (from what i’ve seen so far on here it’s fairly helpful), probably seemed like I was trying too hard (because I was), might have come across as self-indulgent (because it was)
</code></pre>
<p>Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: 5 more days now, until what will most likely be rejection. But it’s fine. duke 2013!</p>
<p>Decision: ACCEPTED</p>
<p>Stats:
SAT I: 1920
SAT IIs: History (780) Math II (760) Physics (680)
ACT: 34
APs: 5 on APUSH, 4 on AP Euro
IBs: 5 on IB Physics SL, 5 on Mathematics SL
GPA: 4.0
Rank: top 1% of a class of 2,000</p>
<p>Subjective:
Job/Work Experience: Worked as an office manager for a tutoring company
Essays (subject and responses): I mainly wrote about traveling places, and why coming to Stanford was an experiment in living where I played to meet people, travel, and soak up what I thought life could be. After college, I vowed to equalize he gap between opportunity and wealth.
Teacher Recs: My AP US History teacher said I was the best student she’d ever had in 25 years, and that in our IB Theory of Knowledge Class (she also teaches, so she knew me for 2 years) I was a person who put others at ease and facilitated discussion. My IB English HL 1 (first year) teacher said I was the best teacher she’d ever had, and she described a random story (not my academic prowess) of a time when I brought her a collection of my poems. She took them from me, made me sign them, and put them in her desk jokingly laughing the key saying it was her retirement plan. In the letter, she said she was not kidding and is sure I will eventually publish something that will make her the poorest millionaire in the world, because she would never sell them</p>
<p>Sorry if I got too flowery with my letters, but if I had to pinpoint a reason I got in it was these:
Counselor Rec: Good enough. She liked me.</p>
<p>Location/Person:
State or Country:USA
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Public High School
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male</p>
<p>Does anyone have any advice for the next round of SCEA applicants for 2014?
except being an URM of course</p>
<p>Accepted!!!</p>
<p>^Karla, wrong thread. This is the SCEA thread … for those who recieved decisions last year 12/15.</p>
<p>^caseyprice: </p>

<p>Stanford admissions is highly unpredictable. Just keep doing what you do, put the most effort you can into writing your essays, and hope for the best. It seriously is an epic crapshoot. Some people think they’re unqualified but actually get in … most who think that they’re unqualified … well do indeed get rejected.</p>
<p>FYI,
theseawolf, post #301, was a ■■■■■ (posted on the Y SCEA Results thread too) and has been banned.</p>
<p>I have a question
Im applying to stanford, yale, and harvard
I sent in my counselor rec through mail, not through common apps</p>
<p>does my teacher have to turn in my recommendation by the due date?
do i have to send in the fee waiver form by the due date?</p>
<p>I need so much help!!! :'(</p>
<p>sunlvkissed</p>
<p>yes to all. everything is due Jan 1st or December 31st (i forget which is the deadline).</p>
<p>you can UPDATE tests scores from Jan SATs or Feb ACTs</p>
<p>My husband just received one today talking about our daughter’s application in regards to legacy, etc, etc. Well, at least they noticed her dad was alum. Not sure where that will take her, but one can always hope! :)</p>

<p>All legacies from Stanford received a letter saying that in the recent past, the acceptance rate for legacies has been at least twice that of non-legacies. So yes, being a legacy helps.</p>
<p>EDIT: I say this because I received one, and I’m only a single, graduate legacy, so I’m sure everyone else got one too</p>
