**Official Stanford 2013 Transfer Thread**

Thought it was about time to start this. We can just discuss/help each other out and potentially trade essays?

I'll go first with the stats dump. Freshman at NYU majoring in Economics.

I was actually inspired by my Economics professor(who used to teach at Stanford) to apply. He mentioned that students at Stanford lead rather composite lives where academics is just one facet. He was comparing it to the likes of Yale and Columbia, where academics is generally given more emphasis(Stanford students are usually busy changing the world). Not to say Stanford's academics are weak by any means, I just think Stanford will offer a much richer undergraduate experience coupled with a balance that schools only dream of achieving.

Would it be worth mentioning why you’re considering transferring? Did you apply to Stanford last year? If so, were you accepted, rejected or waitlisted? If rejected, why do you think you would be given new consideration. If you didn’t apply, why not?

Are you aware that Stanford took no one from their waitlist last year and that the Freshman class is their largest ever due to a higher than expected yield?

I was rejected from Stanford last year. I was a rather lazy/unmotivated student who was just there to “get by”. Stanford I believe had a transfer rate of 2.1% last year.([Stanford Daily | Transfer class cut by nearly half to compensate for high yield rate](http://www.stanforddaily.com/2012/05/16/1066478/))

Stanford’s entrepreneurial culture is its biggest draw. You have arguably the best CS, Business, Economics departments within walking distance of the dorms. Not to mention access to Palo Alto’s resources(sand hill road). It would be stunning if you COULDN’T take advantage of all this.

I think I would stand a better(relative) chance compared to high school because my GPA shows a clear upward trend. I’ve been heavily involved in starting my own initiatives/companies, and I think it’s this scope and depth that defines a Stanford student.

I know stanford sometimes accepts people from California community colleges. What about small colleges in New York. I have a 4.0 Gpa in Iona College, also do they heavily look at high school grades?

Hey guys,

I’m a transfer-hopeful from a Canadian university and was wondering if you know of any tips for success?

Hi All, my name is Fahran Kamili from Houson Texas, currently attending Houston Community college, still freshman.

Standarized Test : None. Will take ACT on February.

And actually, is it possible for a sophomore transfer? how is the chances compared to Junior Transfer?

Thank you so much!

Hello, Everyone.I am an International Student from a Californian community college. Currently carry a 4.0 GPA nothing else special besides went to Africa for volunteer.(HIV/AIDS program) and currently a Math tutor.Just take ACT, haven’t get the result.

Any speculation on how many people Stanford will admit this year? (i.e., any info in yields, drop out rates, etc)?

well it depends on how many kids decide to drop out/transfer out (which is very few for obvious reasons) most reasons the least amount of kids they take is 20 but i have a feeling this year could set a new low, this scares me somewhat as it would for most people out there but i think applying with a positive mindset will ease your worries about when that letter comes flying in may 15th

Hi all! I will be a transfer applicant as well for the upcoming Fall 13 semester.

knight92: To answer it your question, it depends on quite a few factors previous class sizes, drop outs, etc. It can vary a lot from year to year. Two years ago, I think 58 got in as transfer applicants and 49 accepted the offer. Last year, 33 got in and 27 accepted the offer. This was a transfer acceptance rate of 2.2% while the previous year was 4.1%. While it would be hard to guess how many people they’ll accept this year, I’d guess between 20 and 30. This year’s freshmen class was larger than past years and I doubt that will help. All in all, this means that are chances to get in are unfortunately downright terrible. However, if I remember right, I think 3 people from these boards got in as transfers last year so it still is definitely possible.

Hello, I have a quick question I hope someone can answer. For the three short essays on the supplement (with the 2000 character limits), are the responses in short answer format, or essay format with intro, body, and conclusion?

Thank you in advance!

You should try to write them in proper essay format with an intro body and conclusion. For the short 300 character answers, you dont even have to write complete sentences which is great because it gives you a chance to be creative,i have one question myself. We,as transfer students dont have to do the midterm report correct? I remember calling and asking but i forgot what he said.

Thanks!

oh dear god. i just did a thread on that. why couldn’t you of just checked? YES we need to turn in a mid term report as transfer students.

My Stats: CMU

AP scores: Took around 11 AP’s, got all 5s except for French
Units completed: 19
Units in progress (Spring 2013 courses) : 20

Letters of Recommendation: 1 from a professor from Stanford (he mentored me for iOS development… says i’m one of the brightest students he had encountered), 2 from my computer science and linear algebra professor

Other schools I’m applying to:Harvard (got waitlisted last year), MIT, CalTech, Harvey Mudd

I’m half African-American and half Mexican. I hope this might help.

Does Stanford interview transfer applicants?

It is really hard to believe that Stanford only accepts 30 transfer students…

It’s double how many Harvard accepts…

I really had my mind set on Stanford last year, but I don’t know if I can take being rejected twice. YAY HAVE A WEEK TO DECIDE

@frankbot2000, there is no interview process.

@Asuranirosuki I called the admissions office at Stanford and I was told that I do not need a midterm report. All you need is two instructor evaluations, College Report by dean, and your transcripts from highschool/CC
