I’m definitely applying, probably SCEA.
I doubt I have much of a chance of getting in though, considering the crazy rejections I’ve seen

Stanford is my daughter’s dream school. She has a 4.2 weighted, 4.0 unweighted, but only 2020 on the SAT reasoning along with a 770 U.S. History subject test score and a 640 in Lit. We realize these scores are on the low side, but we are hoping that the fact that she is her school’s Girls State Rep (is at the conference this week) will help. She also has had some publishing success with her writing and some related community service, so her ECs are pretty unique. Don’t know if this will be enough, but she want’s to try. So, we will.

I’m going to apply. Though I will get rejected. My EC’s suck plus I just moved. So it’s hard to get myself to do anything with a weird 6 month gap in life. My fault for being lazy.

But really, about the EC’s, what do people who live in rural areas do? (me for a while)

It’s almost July, it’s basically too late to do anything spectacular. Guess I can work on something for the fall… but still… nothing compared to the normal applicants.

^you could write a novel. it’s not a great EC unless you publish it, but it’s a pretty cool thing to do for kicks.

I’m applying! Very unlikely I’ll get in though, I’m an international, and I have yet to save the world…

I am applying EA this year!
good luck to you all!

tokdoc, I’m sure your daughter has a good chance…Stanford doesn’t just look for superhuman test scores, right!

And wow, chiocochio, I’m not sure I’d like that. And why is it only the males?

Shizzle, write great essays. Might work. :)

Applying RD if I don’t make it at my top choice!

I’ve been stressing about applying to Stanford forever. Although I really doubt I’ll get in, all things considered.

Yeah, essays are my only shot. Actually, that’s probably everyone’s only chance if they haven’t survived cancer or discovered the cure for cancer.

^^ even then it’s iffy…isn’t the acceptance rate like 7.6% now?

i know that the admissions rate’s about 13% for SCEA, and probably about 7.6% for regular.

tetris, didn’t know you were considering Stanford…it seems like the antithesis of the kind of place you’re looking for!

I’m applying SCEA. Fingers crossed…
Scary stuff. Maybe it’s just CC’s neurosis rubbing off on me, though. Haha.

even if i don’t get in, at least i’ll have known that i tried. :/

Don’t be too hard on yourselves. Think of it this way: if you’re spending your time in a colllegeforum worrying about college during the summer when you could be at the beach or something, you are a dedicated student. And like I said, the admissions for Stanford is weird…you never know, you might just get in. Like Quasi said, just write a fantastic essay.

@ Quasi: I’m not sure I got this all correct, but I’ll try. There was the Stanford family, with a father that was a senator I believe and his wife Jane. They had a child named Leland Stanford Junior, however at a young age he died of typhoid fever. Before his death he was a dedicated student so they built the school after him in his memory. They have this room dedicated to him, and let me tell you…it is so scary weird. O.O

Their art and sculptures are fantastic as well, a lot by Rodin .

I’ve still yet to make a decision on whether to apply SCEA. The only thing I’m worried about is my test scores.

I know that Stanford “strongly recommends” SAT Subject tests, but if I postpone those to retake the SAT I (and miraculously do really well on it), would it hurt me? I plan on retaking the Oct. SAT I in time for the Nov. 1st SCEA deadline, but I was planning on taking the subject tests at a later date (Nov. or Dec.).
Any takes on this would be gladly appreciated.

I’m hoping she has a chance despite the test scores. From what I’ve seen, Stanford seems to take the most holistic look at the student of all the great schools. They seem to like unique, leader types who have something interesting to offer.

bliss- I think you should assume that “highly recommended” means they want you to do it :)
