<p>ExcitedG, I’m pretty sure the roommate essay is a way for them to see the “real you.” When you’re admitted you have to answer questionnaires and write essays about your lifestyle and that’s what they use to match you up with your roommate. But you never know, maybe your roommate essay in you application counts towards your match-up too.</p>

<p>But no, it’s the latter. Like hpfan018 said, you fill out a seperate housing app. If you think about it logically, why would admissions (who aren’t in charge of housing, there’s seperate staff for that) bother using essays to match up the thousands of people who apply to Stanford when they don’t even know if the applicants are actually going to the school? It just doesn’t make sense. I don’t know if the housing staff uses our roommate essays to match us up, but one of my friends mentioned printing off a copy and giving it to her roommate, so I think that’s something I might do as well…</p>
