Official Stanford RD 2014 Admissions Discussion Thread

excited! nervous! submitted min on the first tehehe

Top choice! I’ve submitted my supplement already and submitting my common app the 22nd(don’t ask). I was so nervous clicking that submit button on the supplement realizing that my essays were really heading over there to be judged

I understand how you guys are skeptical of the rates, but considering Stanford’s overall rate hovers around 12%, its not ridiculous. Plus, following the trend of other schools in the area (UC-Berkeley, UCLA, etc.), Stanford wants to educate California kids. Basically, California schools = higher rates for California kids. The Midwest is also not exactly the breeding ground for the “free-spirit” kind of person that I see going to Stanford.

When you really get down to it though, I’m just justifying the fact that I’m not going to get in haha.

Stanford Deferrees should be happy – Yale deferred >50% of their applicants. And yes, I am one of them.

Stanford’s overall acceptance rate is on the low end of 8% (I beleieve last year it was 7.9%?). It’s definitely not 12%.

yeah, I believe you mixed it up with last year’s EA Acceptance Rate (12.7%)

^i know! It’s practically the same rate as Harvard(yikes)

I was thinking about it, but if the scores are typically around a 34 for ACT I think I’ll take my 31 and try for Wash U in St. Louis. Thanks for the info and good luck.

How many subject tests r required

Rejected at Columbia ED, deferred at Chicago EA. Now I’m here to shamelessly put myself through another disappointment. Submitted my supplement yesterday.

@collegesgirl - None are required, but you’re encouraged to submit as many as you like.

@srrinath - I know what you mean. I was deferred from MIT yesterday, and it feels like my chances for all the colleges I’ve applied to just went down a whole bunch.

Hi everyone!

I’m applying RD :)

RD!!! Erghh, March seems forever away.

Haha, the thread has been revived!

Yea I’m pretty nervous about applying because I’m not the ‘smartest’ applicant around. But the only way I could possibly get in is if I apply…so here’s hoping!

Good luck everyone. Stanford finally received all my supporting materials a few days ago so now it’s just time to wait until April 1st at 6 pm EST. I wish I applied Early Action so I could have gotten a decision by now, but unfortunately I was contemplating actually applying to Stanford until around December so of course it was too late…

Yeah I’m not sure if I’m happy I did not apply early. The smartest girl in my school applied early (she’s a flipping genius!) and she was deferred… That gives me little hope. I know that EA supposedly has higher admission rates, but I think that’s just because less people apply early and a lot of AMAZING PEOPLE who are sure to get in apply early. Hopefully my chances are better RD, but if the smartest girl in our school can’t get in there is no hope for me.

I’m applying! Good Luck everybody!

From my acceptance…and many of the acceptances in the Early Round, I’m not quite sure "genius’ was the common trend by any means. More than anything, it was presenting that certain “package” of a person and scholar that Stanford looks for. I did not let consideration of the inevitable super genius applicants deter me from applying because if I was to be rejected early, I would have most definitely been rejected the regular round as well. I know it’s too late for this right now, but I felt that this was a fear that I also had entering the application season. Perhaps this could function as a piece of advice to any future applicants to Stanford. Anyway, good luck to all of you.

I second toast.
