***Official Stanford RD 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread***

let’s do something else!
what did everyone write about on their essays? broadly, of course, so future stanford hopefuls won’t steal our brilliance XD

what did everyone write about on their essays?

Gosh, I don’t even remember those mini-essays that well! All I remember is writing about video games. Oh, and being filmed while talking in a foreign language (as you can imagine, it is incredibly stressful and embarrassing). I’ve already forgotten my third topic even after reading the prompts on the Stanford web site.

broadly, of course, so future stanford hopefuls won’t steal our brilliance XD

Bah, Stanford students (and prospies alike) are inherently brilliant. No worries. lol

Is the decision directly in the email or do they email a link? LOL sorry guys bout going back to this topic… can’t help it :x

^ It’s directly in the email.
Do you guys know how much earlier the announcement e-mail has come before the decisions email?

Well, if you get an email, according to the article, it’s either a waitlist or a rejection.

^ Wait…so if you get an announcement e-mail it’s basically a sign of rejection/waitlist? what…?

@zomggg: All applicants will receive an e-mail regardless of the decision. However, only accepted students will get the additional big package in the mailbox. Rejected and waitlisted students will receive only the e-mail.

Oh! I must’ve misread that, then. So I don’t necessarily need to be afraid of my inbox?

Haha no, your email inbox should be your instincts for the next 5 days. You should be relying on it for survival.

Yeah, everyone gets an email. The subject doesn’t give anything away “your Stanford decision,” or something like that.

For EA, they posted on their website in the morning that decisions were to be released “earlier than expected” someone then posted on cc, and everyone freaked out.
So keep that page bookmarked! jkjk-kinda :)

I wish they’d do that, I’m so anxious…

“Haha no, your email inbox should be your instincts for the next 5 days. You should be relying on it for survival.”

Haha my type of person. I imagined my computer as an oxygen machine. Funny!

Oh yeah, so I made a survival kit! It includes five boxes of Kleenex, a carton of chocolate ice cream, and a cd with the song “Somebody That I Used To Know” looped 15 times.

But you didn’t have to cut me offfffffff
Make it like it never happened and that we were nothinggggg
And I don’t even need your loveeee (but I actually do so accept me!)
Cause you treat me like a stranger and that feels so roughhhh

smewshie, I don’t know who you are, but I just decided we’re friends. XD

Maybe we can be roommates if we both get in :open_mouth: (assuming that you’re a girl). But only if you’re cool with growing pineapples in your dorm room. Heh.

For now, though, I’ll check my email every 5 seconds and offer to share my survival kit. Honestly, I think I’m going to end up eating the ice cream either way so…

yup, I’m a girl! and pineapple is awesome. I hope you don’t mind if I have tons of grapefruit juice in my fridge, then! haha :)

and yeah you kinda deserve the ice cream, college admissions are stressful

^ GRAPEFRUIT JUICE CHILD, YOU’RE MINE.

haha but really, best stuff on earth. <3

I know it sounds cheesy (I’m a cheesy person) but I’m seriously grateful for this forum/thread because I feel like we’re in it together even though we don’t actually know each other. It’s nice :)

Acai juice or water for me. I used to eat grapefruits to torture myself. They’re so bitter >__<

I love fruit though…persimmons, pomegranates, starfruit, mangoes, cold citrusy fruits (NOT GRAPEFRUITS), etc. Anything but bananas and dragonfruit.

Yeah, college admissions ARE stressful. However, I think I’ll probably end up going to community college if I don’t get in. I only applied to three schools which was dumb, but hey, I didn’t want to take anyone’s spot by accident if only I was just slightly interested in a school. Not to mention that I wouldn’t shell out money that I don’t have for a school that wasn’t uniquely offering something that I felt was a vital investment to my intellectual development and future career. If I don’t get in, I think I’ll apply to UChicago (I LOVE their essay prompts and creative atmosphere) in two years. Maybe following William Dement’s footsteps will lead me where I want to go. I just don’t know… but it’s important to remember that you’ll end up where you are meant to be. You have to take the initiative, but beyond that, fate is in control.

Anyway, what’s in everyone’s survival kit?? Hopefully something fun?

Other questions I have if you guys want to answer: At what point did you decide to start the application for Stanford? // What do you want to do in the future?

^have you tried grapefruit with sugar or salt? :3
It’s not bitter unless you leave it out for a while! Also, don’t eat the skin. The pulp=mega-delish ;)

I’ve now decided to also be friends with collegeinfo1994. yay for anonymously befriending strangers on college forums!!
I am going to drink grapefruit juice after I post this!

smewshie, we can agree to disagree. mangoes are delicious, though! and hey, at least by applying to 3 schools you probably had a more relaxed fall… I applied to 12 and it just about killed me! :)

I decided to apply to Stanford because one of my friends’ moms talked me into it (she’s an alum.) and I want to do music or math!
