***Official Stanford RD 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread***

I attached a long resume… the idea that doing so would affect me in any sort of negative way seems completely ludicrous

I also did not attach a resume. I know Stanford doesn’t want a resume so I didn’t make one, but some people in the thread earlier say that Stanford doesn’t want anything in the additional information. This seems strange to me since some things on the common app request you to put it in additional info (Extra Academic Honors, Extra Test scores, Extra activities, enrichment summer program description). So, where applicable, that’s what I put in additional info, not a resume. Obviously the common application is the same for all colleges, so I don’t think Stanford expects you to make a new version somehow and remove the additional information part just for them.

I hope they do look at it though, mine was important and contained things that were not available elsewhere on my application.

I think when they say they don’t want “supplementary material” they mean stuff that is not Common Application (or art supplement or extra rec); stuff like research or some certificate or a 4th recommendation, or a resume. I don’t think it means they do not want anything in the additional info section. I think additional info if it has regular stuff is fine, because some people need to write important things in the additional information.

^I agree with the above post completely. Seriously, I don’t think Stanford expects you to create a separate CommonApp sans Additional Information just for their university. I don’t think there will be any negative consequences to having a resume/CV attached. On a side note, did anyone else get a supplemental recommendation? I got one from a research advisor that will (hopefully) be mailed in a few days.

Stanford is definitely my first choice, but I’m extremely nervous because quite a few students from my school are applying this year. I felt pretty qualified with a 32 on my ACT, a 3.9 W/3.8 UW GPA, and numerous awards and extracurriculars. However, I just found out that those applying from my school have 35s/36s and GPAs of around 4.3 W/4.0 UW. If I have quality essays and good recommendations that show my personality and my dedication to leadership, would they consider those factors over my ACT score and GPA? I’m nervous because I’ve fallen in love with Stanford, and I feel like my application is going to get thrown out because I’m not on par with the other students from my school that are applying.

Sure they would–it’s NOT all about the numbers. If you showed them great quality in your activities and essays, you have as good a shot as anyone.

Hey guys! I was just wondering what everyone’s average test scores/essays/extracurriculars were like. Anything spectacular?

and now I guess I join you as a deferred applicant!

Lurking (:

Hi guys! Quick question, how formal do the profile questions on the supplement have to be? Like when it says what you did this past summer can you just list out like… work for 2 weeks, beach for 2 weeks, etc.?

the officer who visited my school said he just throws resumes away. so though it wouldn’t officially hurt, it might initially annoy them. of course, if you need to describe an award or circumstances it should be fine, but, for example, i had 3 more AP scores i couldn’t fit on the common app and in the end they just never saw them. i dont think extra test scores would be worth attaching another document for.

Applying RD too! My ED school didn’t accept me, but I have redirected my attention to Stanford for the time being. :)

profile questions - I formatted them very casually: before junior year: camp, etc, before senior year: internship etc, both years: reading etc…

Hearing everyone’s EA/ED decisions from Stanford and other schools is making me really nervous. I already submitted so I feel like its super out of my control. I want to go so badly! Anyone else feeling this?

^I’m right with you there…I submitted mine right before the deadline for EA with Arts Supplement and I’ve been frantically check my email ever since, hoping that it’s May already. x.x

ahahaha nope not quite decisions time yet unfortunately  so are you in the RD pool or did you get a deferral from REA?

How long does it typically take to process SAT scores? I sent mine on the 29th of November, and according to Axess, they still haven’t received my scores :/

I’m 100% sure that I will be accepted or waitlisted or rejected.

Am i the only one still working on the application?

@neuroscience1234

Not at all haha. I’m still reworking some of my stuff.

Nope. I still have Yale, Stanford, Harvey Mudd, and Caltech supplements left to finish.

Wooo the final push guys! We can do this <3
