The official thread for this year's Stanford SCEA'ers is finally here! This is YOUR thread so feel free to post anything you want. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! :)

Here we go! Glad to get first response. Let’s have a sweet thread and really get to cyber know each other before Judgement Day. Lookin’ forward to this ride!

You guys won’t beat last years thread, but best of luck with admissions. Just remember that you will all end up somewhere great. Whether or not that place is in Palo Alto doesn’t matter in the end.

Harambee, yes we will!!
“whether or not that place is in Palo Alto doesn’t matter in the end”

Thanks for that! I’m taking the ACT tomorrow and i’m not too sure of myself. ACT low or high, I’ll still try Stanford anyway though.

@ neuroscience1234: You’re going to do well. At this point, it’s really more about maintaining a positive attitude about the test than anything else. I’m rooting for you! :D

@ Harambee: Hi! Didn’t think you’d still be posting. How’s Stanford treating you so far?! (just as a note, I was one of the 2015 SCEA’ers, so I know Harambee’s true identity, as well as the identities of most of the regular posters on last year’s thread :P)

Why and how did you guys know each other’s true identities?

@dapotatomann- They were posters on the 2015 SCEA Stanford thread, and I think they now both go to Stanford.
@Calgirl15- Thank you! I will definitely keep a positive attitude.

“Judgement Day”-lmao!

@ neuroscience1234: No, unfortunately I’m not at Stanford (yet). I’m also a 2016 applicant with the rest of you guys - I graduated from high school last year but am on a gap year (for more reasons than just re-applying… my parents would probably have made me take a year off anyway because they had valid concerns about my health - that was one of the other reasons). But last year the 2015 SCEA’ers also made a Facebook group (which I was briefly in) - so I know the names of every regular poster. Granted, they also know who I am…

Well @calgirl15- I hope that you will get to see the 2015 CCers around campus the fall of 2012 :)

Anyway, I took the ACT test today:( It dropped my confidence a bit but oh well! Doesn’t hurt to try Stanford.

neuroscience1234, I took the ACT today too. The science section was a nightmare for me, personally. I’m not even sure I’ll apply early anymore since we don’t have another chance for a retake before SCEA deadline.

@Dreamonforever- STORY OF MY LIFE!!! I’m not so sure about early action anymore either. However, I love Stanford so much that I don’t want to do regular decision. I will make the final decision on September 26th (when ACT scores come out). I hope that when they evaluate me, they will look past my ACT scores. If my scores are mediocre, I will painfully do regular decision and take another try of the ACT.
I’m studying really hard for my SAT IIs, so hopefully a score of 750+ Math level 2 will let them be like “oh, so she doesn’t suck at math THAT much” haha
Sorry I’ve been holding this whole ACT/early action conflict in my chest the whole day so I’m rambling on and on right now.
Anyway, @dreamonforever, don’t give up. a Stanford representative said that “we evaluate more on what you have achieved during 4 years of high school rather than 4 hours of a Saturday morning”.

I know! I feel the exact same. It would kill me if I had to do regular decision, because I don’t think I can stay sane for that many months waiting for decisions to be released. I know that Stanford’s website says that Sept. ACT test date is the last we can take, but I’m hoping that we can take the October’s test and self report the scores when they come to us(which I’m guessing will be a few days after the first of november). And then they can just get the official report 2 weeks later.
Haha! Good Luck on SAT II’s! I’m sure you’ll do great. Plus, the curve for Math 2 is very generous.
Omg, same here! I’ve just been kind of depressed all day. I desperately want to apply early since Stanford is my first choice, but as of right now I’m not sure that’s going to happen.

Hey guys I asked this in the other thread, and I was wondering if you can apply EA to UNC and SCEA to Stanford?? Since UNC is a public school (but I’m not sure if thats only for in-state students)

So why are you guys applying early action to Stanford? Junior year I felt so confident that Stanford was my top choice, but after my college trip on the east coast, I’m starting to feel unsure as to where I want to apply EA/ED. I mean, the school is great and everything, but I have lived in SoCal my whole life, so I want to get out and see the world.

Edit: @cheng: I believe you can apply early to a public school in your home state.

Yes @cheng81894- You can apply to a public school early action. However, you can always email them to confirm. They are surprisingly quick in replying back.

@Rush10- I’m applying early because It’s my top choice. However, I live in the East coast and my family is not rich enough to just buy me a plane ticket to California to visit Stanford.

One thing i like about applying early, is that if you get in, you are done with the application process. If you get rejected, then in regular decision round you won’t put all your energy into Stanford because it’s your number 1 choice. You get to use that energy on college #2.

@dreamonforever- the thought of waiting until April to find out kills me! I will retake the ACT in October. Of course, I’ll still send them my September ACT scores. In case of rejection, I will use my October ACT scores for the other colleges.

Rush10, I’m applying early because it’s my number one choice. I visited it during winter break while spending time with my family in California last year, and I loved the architecture, academics, and enthusiasm of all the people there. And of course, the weather. (I live in Illinois so I’m anxious to get out of all the dreary weather.) So I understand how you’ll probably want to see another part of the world, but that’s why I’m applying early - to get out and see something new. Do you have any other schools in mind for EA/ED?

neuroscience, Yea i emailed them, but I got an automated email saying they get a lot of emails everyday, so I’ll I’ll probably call them tomorrow.

Yes that’s what happened to me. I received an automated email response but the following day I received a REAL email response. Wait 1 or 2 days and they should reply.

Hey everyone! Can I join the SCEA party too? I’m an East Coaster, too, neuroscience1234, so we’ll see if we can get lucky…

And @Rush10, I’m applying early because it’s always been my dream school, since I visited campus 3 years ago. It has pretty much every quality I want in a school, and I’d love to be able to go to school on the West Coast, for the same reason you say you want to get out of CA.

cheng81894, here is what Stanford says directly from their website:

"Exceptions

The student may apply to any college/university with early deadlines for scholarships or special academic programs as long as the decision is non-binding.
The student may apply to any public college/university.
The student may apply to any college/university with a non-binding rolling admission process.
The student may apply to any foreign college/university on any application schedule."

So you can apply early to any public college like UNC, etc. And btw, I also once emailed Stanford and received the automated reply, getting a real email back in one day, so don’t worry.
