Anyone else having trouble pasting into the supplemental essay box? Not exceeding character limits, either…

dapotatoman that is fantastic. You must feel so good. Now you know you’ve done all you can. You can’t ask anymore of yourself. Which ever school accepts you and you decide to attend will be lucky to have you.

Congrats!!!

@ dapotatoman: That’s amazing; congrats! I remember how excited I was when I saw that I broke 2300 on the SAT. It was a great feeling. :)

@ Sebo93: If you’re a Mac user, have you tried using the “Paste and Match Style” option under the “Edit” menu? It’s always worked for me.

Nope, not a mac user!

I’m using Google chrome as my browser, if that’s of any help to anyone that may know what the problem is.

Use firefox or explorer if you have it. That worked for me. I initially tried with chrome, got frustrated, and tried a different browser.

On Stanford’s site it says
“SUPPLEMENTARY CREDENTIALS
Please do not send any additional materials which are not specifi cally
requested in the application. This includes school or work resumes,
research papers, and writing samples. They will not be considered”

Does this mean that they will not look at the additional information section of the Common App? Or does this mean they won’t look at materials sent outside of the CommonApp? Can anyone provide some insight on this? Thanks!

Thanks Guys for your support!!!

I’m also applying REA. It’s a reach, but I don’t think impossible. Trying hard not to want it too badly. I wonder if they will accept earlier than Dec. 15 like they have in the previous years.

Gold – I didn’t submit anything in the “additional info” section of Stanford’s app, because of what the site says and what was said when I visited. I will use it for other apps.

And I, too, was unable to copy and paste using Chrome; I used Firefox, and it worked OK. But be sure to do Print Preview – my answers, even though under the character limit, were initially cut off.

Finally – I got an email confirming receipt of my application a week after submitting it, but never got another (e.g., the one saying "we’re sending you our guidebook). FYI.

I used the additional info section. Gold, I think they mean they DO NOT want you submitting unnecessary materials like a resume, a book you wrote, etc… because is slows them down during their admissions process. But, using the additional info on the common app is okay.

For the supplement, when it says “Respond in two lines or less” for the short answer questions, does that mean roughly two sentences? They say complete sentences aren’t required, but I just don’t know if I should fill up the 300 characters (not with BS - by expanding on what I said originally) or leave it short.

Just submitted my app! Fingers crossed

Batfan, I would leave it short and simple, if it says two lines or less then respond in two lines or less.

Batfan, do whatever you feel best describes you. The 300 characters will typically be 2 lines with maybe a little spill over. The extra word or two is not going to send you to the reject pile at all. No university admissions staff could be that cold. And write as many sentences as you want as long as it fits 300 characters.

Concision is good, but write so the best portrayal of you is presented for each question. If that portrayal takes 299 characters, write 299 characters.

Alright, thanks! Just realized that if you hit “preview,” you can see how long your answers are, and like @lordfarquaad said, two lines is about 300 characters. Loving your username, btw.

Good luck to all of you! I’m applying ED to Cornell, and I can feel how excited you all are!

Switching over to Firefox worked! Thanks for the help!

How much does other kids applying for your same school hurt you? For example, in my school, one kid applying is a Questbridge finalist w/ Stanford as first choice and one is a legacy. Legacy has higher gpa, 2200 sat, ec involvement, summer activities but QB finalist has 2300 sat, lower gpa, less ec involvement, but can write brilliantly, is considered a genius in my school, and is first generation. The school only has 25 seniors and both of these two are applying (early and through QB for one). How will these two applicants hurt each other’s chances?

Quick question: does anyone know exactly how early than Dec 15 does Stanford release its decisions? Thanks =)

In the past few years I have noticed that they release them 2-5 days earlier. I know that last year they released them on December 10th and the year before that it was December 11th, but it all depends on if the admission committee is on “schedule” apparently.
