Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

I noticed that nobody had started one of these yet. I thought that now would be as good a time as any to start one :)

I was wondering when this would turn up. I am also applying SCEA to Stanford!

me too (or three)!.. how much have you guys done for the application?

I finished my common app essay (and the rest of the common app except for maybe one more draft of my activities essay), and I’ve done all of the profile questions on the Stanford supplement plus a draft of the intellectual vitality essay. Now that I’m saying it I’m realizing how much I’ve actually done.

How about you?

Dear 2017ers
As a freshman it would be helpful to see your stats if possible.

Thanks,
Apollo

I’m working on rewriting some of my common app essay right now. I’m about halfway through all the Stanford supplement essays. I still have a few of the profile questions left too. I also have to ask for recommendations from one more teacher and my counselor, still. I feel kind of behind, but hopefully I shouldn’t have a problem finishing everything.

I already turned everything in, since i’m studying abroad i’m almost done with senior year so I was able to finish my apps earlier :D

I’ve got most of my app done, and I’ve gotten started on the essays. I still need recommendations, too. So, yeah, I’m also a wee bit behind, Shockwave.

Are any of you taking the October SAT? I can’t believe it is so soon. I’m a little bit freaked out. I just wish I didn’t have to think about it anymore and could focus on my essays.

I’m taking the October SAT for NMSF application purposes. I don’t plan on submitting it though unless I get a 2400, because I got good scores on my ACT.

Doesn’t like to see all scores from both tests if you’ve taken both? I may be mistaken, I haven’t done that much research on it seeing as I’ve only taken the SAT. I just thought I heard that somewhere.

I’m taking the SAT in October, if I get below 2000 or so, do you think I should apply for RD instead? I think SAT is one of my only weak points in the application, not that I took the real exam so far, but I did a few pretests and they were around 1800. What should I do? :)

I’m not taking the October SAT. I’m happy with my score on the ACT, and there aren’t any testing sites for the SAT around here, anyway.

JemDkyl,

I think if your application is strong everywhere except for your SAT scores, then you should be alright for EA. Plus, you never know what you’re going to get until you get your scores back. Just keep working on it :)

Are internationals expected a lesser score on the English section of SAT than native speakers? I don’t mean like a 200 difference or anything, but let’s say 650 for international and 700 for a native speaker? Numbers are just random, I can’t remember the percentile range for Stanford’s SAT scores at the moment.

I think they’d definitely be more understanding of a low score in CR/W if English isn’t your first language.

ive never been more nervous than anything else in my life than dec 15
what is stanford’s act range?

@pitabread78: Me neither! I read through all of last year’s thread the other day, which was a TERRIBLE idea. Honestly when they were about to find out their decisions, my heart was racing as though I were about to find out too. I’m going to be a mess when it’s really happening. I did learn though that the results usually come out the Friday before the 15th… since the 15th is a Saturday for us it might just be the 14th, or maybe it’s just about a week early. Either way, I’m terrified for early December.

As for ACT score, look here [Stanford University: Common Data Set 2011-2012](http://ucomm.stanford.edu/cds/2011.html)

isnt it nerve racking?! ive read through that like 20 billion times not gonna lie.
whew good my ACT score is within the range…not really in the upper range, but still there. It is incredibly unlikely ill get in but who knows, dreams can come true right?

Pitabread78,

Have you been posting on College p-rowler (it wouldn’t let me post the word normally) as well? The person I’ve been seeing with a name similar to your username is interested in majoring in physics/astronomy.
And of course dreams can come true :)

Most definitely.

I’ve read through those posts too and i’m absolutely terrified I don’t want to get rejected…
