Official Stanford Transfer 2014 Thread

Rejected. Thank god I didn’t get waitlisted!

I would like to remind everyone…that, contrary to popular belief here on CC, the vast majority of applicants to Stanford et al during REA, regular, or transfer applications process do not use nor post anything on CC…

that is true, but I’ve seen the threads for every year leading back to 2007, and every year a minimum of two students post that they’ve been accepted. Its only a matter of time before someone chimes in with happy news.

Who else is still deciding between UCB and UCLA?

It’s okay guys. I just got rejected too. I’m sure we are all gonna end up at somewhere awesome. If you’re upset, just unfollow Stanford on Instagram like I did. Out of sight, out of mind.

I got just accepted. For anyone that cares:

A hearty congrats @alexeibas !!

Thanks for your service.

Best of luck at Stanford. You will do great.

Hey Guys, I was accepted as well! Junior Sociology major!

Thats great! are you still deciding where you are going to transfer? also if you want , can you post your stats? or what you wrote in your essays? I think next year there is going to be a lot of transfer students reading this thread and it could help them.

Congrats @PaintTheSilence! I’ve seen you around on a few threads so it’s great to see you’ve been accepted someplace awesome! Have a great time there!

Yes. I will most definitely be transferring to Stanford. Heh. I will be studying computer science and entering as a Junior.
Umm, sure I wrote about the following on my essays:
Extracurricular Experience: I wrote about being a DJ at WHPK, the college radio station at UChicago. I talked about it being a creative release.
Intellectual Vitality: I was blunt and said that the most significant experience in my intellectual development was removing myself from academics. I wrote about how my time in the Marine Corps exposed me to different cultures, developed my ability to lead, and allowed me to develop an ability to work alongside individuals of a different background in dire situations–in particular I spoke about being partnered with the Afghan police and performing joint security and combat operations with them.
What matters to you and why: I wrote about family: how important family is to me due to being an immigrant and their role as my support dealing with culture shock. I also wrote about the family i developed in the service which was born out of the toll of combat.
Note to roomate: I wrote about 3 things: I like to work out and do so methodically early in the morning. I lift weights and do crossfit for my competitive needs. I like things to be clean and organized. And I like to play video games competitively (I mentioned that I will at times yell profanities but its only cause I hate losing).
Common App Essay: I wrote about my background or story. Essentially I went over why I chose to go to the University of Chicago and how I had to leave the school due to financial hardship on my parents’ end. I re-enrolled at USU and talked about how that led to me realize that a) I did not want to pursue economics and philosophy and b) i needed to take charge of my own life (part of the reason I went to the U of C was my parents) and in turn enlisted in the military to fulfill a need for service and to embark on my own journey. I spoke about the changes I’ve undergone while in the Marine Corps and how I look forward to returning to a premier academic institution.

Congrats you guys! I hope you will be happy at Stanford! I wish you both all the best in the world ^^

Thanks, guys! I’m pretty shocked to be honest. I was already quoting a rejection letter out loud when I opened the email only to see “Congratulations!” instead, lol! My stats aren’t amazing, but here goes :

GPA: 3.89 Community College
ACT: 29 ( VERY LOW due to math and science, but I scored 33+ in reading and english)
High School GPA: Too bad to even mention. Really…it was dismal.
Major: Sociology/Education/ Behavioral Neuroscience
Essays: Common App was about how I always thought I was indecisive, but really just liked mixing theories and disciplines together to create something new. Intellectual vitality was about how I begged for a piano but couldn’t play (first experience with autonomous learning). Letter to roommate was about 5 things that a roommate will think sucks about me. And what matters most to me was about how I came to value silence by going on meditation retreats.

I seriously can’t believe I was accepted. I fully expected a rejection from Stanford and I couldn’t be happier. :)

I’m not entirely sure how, but I got ACCEPTED!!!

I literally never bothered bookmarking this thread because Stanford accepts so few people. I never expected to hear good news.

Imma call fake on some of these posts.
With a transfer acceptance rate of about 1%…I don’t buy some of these accepted posts

@RoysGoin2College‌ I’m sorry to hear that. It’s true, Stanford accepts few to none. (For Fall 2013, out of the 1,662 transfer applicants who applied, only 32 were admitted!) Fortunately, I don’t need your validation for the legitimacy of my acceptance email. I can post my stats if that might rid your doubt:

GPA: 3.95
School: A UC school (not Berkeley or UCLA)
SAT: 1810
Major: Classical Studies
Essays: Honestly, I felt like this was the worst part of my application. I’m a good writer, but I don’t have any extraordinary circumstances or lived experiences. However, I talked about my unique experiences as a double minority (a self-identified queer person of color) in a leadership position (I’m a residential adviser at my current university). I also kept my application real to myself. For example, under favorite musical artists, I wrote, “the soundtrack to any musical,” and for the historical moment question I mentioned a really nerdy Ancient Greek ritual that I wish I could have experienced. I think the admissions officers really appreciated the honesty of my writing supplement.
Letters of Recommendation: Probably the best part of my application. I was very close to my professors and they are damn good writers.

@RoysGoin2College, I second @Catullus. What a weak thing to say. There is no need to try to ruin what is a very happy day for myself and others by basically accusing us of being liars. That is pretty immature. 3 people get accepted and that’s hard to believe? I have nothing else to say about it because I also do not feel the need to prove the legitimacy of my acceptance. Thanks to everyone who voiced their support and congratulations, and good luck to those still waiting to hear from other schools!

@RoysGoin2College‌ every year they accept about 30, that out of those 30, 3 are on this forum is very likely. If you google Stanford Transfer 2014 , this thread comes up.
Thanks for posting your stats, I could def. see where I could’ve improved things on my app after reading your responses. hopefully they are helpful to someone in the future

Rejected. Stanford was my top choice and I poured my heart into my application. Despite that, I’m humbled by the stories I’ve heard so far by those who were accepted, I wish you all the best of luck!

3 acceptances on these forums was the same as last year… congrats to all those accepted - welcome to the farm!!

My boyfriend got in! He got his letter on the 12th.
