Seems like the why are you transferring question is not one of the essay prompts this year. one is about intellectual vitality, what matters to you, and the roommate one. I have good idea for what to write for all of them, its just a matter of using the right words and being clear on one means to say (easier said than done!)

If anyone wants to check on each others essays let me know. I have the "what matters " one done. If you could let me know about my essay and I can do the same for one yours as well if you want.

Can anyone post their stats and ECs that either A) are applying this semester or B) got in another semester?

@delinquente I think Stanford accepts around 30 something students a year?

@delinquente. You are right that the freshmen yield and retention rate is very high and will remain so. So you have to be asking where are the transfer slots coming from? Stanford, unlike any other top academic institution, also has many top-flight “professional level” athletes (which is quite unusual combination) who sometimes leave school early to play professional football, tennis, baseball, golf, basketball, etc. along with some students who leave early to start new companies or join new startups…and depending on how many leave early each year…will significantly influence how many will be accepted as transfers to fill those slots at Stanford…

…although Stanford administration frowns upon students leaving early before getting their degree…they also understand the economics/reality of those exceptionally talented athletes and entrepreneurs who want to pursue their dreams outside of the classroom…

…and @Frisbole…Stanford does not have a rigid number they accept for transfers…it is a moving target depending on the above scenarios…

…so, if I were a potential transfer candidate…I would hope and pray for MORE of the above scenarios

PS: there are also some students who just want to take some time off as well…they also have to be factored in (Stanford has a very liberal policy on this)…

And, by the way, it hasn’t always been the athletes or entrepreneurs who left early or shall I say before they received their “degree” to do “great” things…there was this colorful figure you may have heard of…

@gravitas. I want to major in Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech and also interested in art. I submitted an art supplement but recently I got a new artwork that I want to hand in to Stanford as well. I know that they can’t take into consideration but just wanna show them. Do you think it’s possible? Also, I recently have some new experiences and events. Is there a way to let them know as well? Thank you!

I just realized that there was a fall 2014 transfer thread for Stanford as well. I know Stanford is a long-shot for pretty much everyone, but I surely had fun writing essays for their supplementary questions. It was definitely a great break from trying to prove that I am worth something to all the Ivy league colleges I applied. Fingers crossed everyone!

@setdreamfly. I hope you wrote “Stanford” and not “Georgia Tech” in your application…because that would surely mean a rejection :-O. Their art supplement due date was 3/15/14…so I would not fret. I would not send them anything else…they are pretty strict about this. Let the cards fall where they may…

…good luck.

@gravitas2. I’m sorry about mistype. I intended to say I’m studying in Georgia Tech now but want to go to Stanford to continue my major… Well and so you think between now and mid May we couldn’t by any chance contact Stanford about our latest information?

@setdreamfly. You may do whatever you wish…the worst that can happen is that they ignore the material submitted…

@gravitas first, thanks for the reply

second, from an undisclosed source (did not want to be quoted-not even sure if this is necessarily true) but Stanford IS planning to accept more transfer students this year than last year
