[] Where else were you accepted: Accepted: USC, UCLA, Berkeley, Columbia, Harvard, Chicago, Duke, Rice, SMU, U of Pacific (safety). Rejected: Yale

[/ul]General Comments: Eek! It’s between Stanford, Columbia and USC now. I’d say Stanford and USC are the front-runners, as I think I’d rather stay in Cali. Out of Stanford and USC, well Stanford just has the edge, but I’m not willing to say no to USC yet. Decisions, decisions.

Decision: Rejected

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2400
[] ACT:
[] SAT II: 800 USH, 800 WH, 800 Chem
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Debate 9th-12th grade (captain), Envirothon 10-12 (captain), school service society 9-12 (VP), NHS 10-12 (VP); The first 3 are the ones I have dedicated myself to in school over the years, it would take a while to describe the things I do in each of them.
[] Job/Work Experience: none, applied for some jobs, didn’t get them >.<
[] Volunteer/Community service: worked with a non-profit in New Orleans rebuilding houses, volunteer at food pantry, tutor at local middle school, volunteer for local state representative, and the school service society could be considered community service (we run monthly schoolwide food drives that go to the aforementioned food pantry)
[] Summer Activities: volunteering at food pantry, camp CIT, etc.
[] Essays: Common App was a little abstract, fairly personal, not sure how admissions officers would’ve responded to it; I thought my Stanford essays were fairly good and distinctive, although I had to significantly condense and cut good essays to fit them within the Stanford character limit, which may have been an issue.
[] Teacher Recommendation: don’t know, didn’t ask for or read, but I have very good relationships with the teachers I asked
[] Counselor Rec: don’t know, didn’t ask for or read
[] Additional Rec: Envirothon coach, it would’ve been very good
[li] Interview: didn’t get one
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): CT
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Catholic
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese-American)
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: just barely don’t qualify for FA, but applied for FA anyways lol
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: objective stats, essays I thought? but guess not
[] Weaknesses: none in particular, overall solid app, but I had nothing that really stood out or anything in particular
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: couldn’t say to be honest, I guess Stanford just didn’t like my app
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Harvard accept, UPenn (Wharton) accept, Dartmouth likely letter/accept, Swarthmore early write acceptance, Northwestern accept, Duke accept, UChicago waitlist, Yale reject, Williams waitlist

[/ul]General Comments:

Disappointing, I thought I had a decent shot at getting in, thought that my essays highlighted who I was and my interests well, but you can never be too sure about these things, especially with a college as competitive as Stanford. However, my school has pretty much never sent anyone to Stanford before, and actually one of my good friends just got in RD, so it’s still pretty great. Overall, still quite pleased with how things went. Good luck in your college careers everyone!

Decision: Deferred---->Accepted

[] Summer Activities:Court ordered 6 weeks with my dad every summer, Girl’s State, and working on my Science Olympiad helicopter
[] Essays: Since this was my first application they were still in their somewhat rough stage as compared to my December application. Maybe a 7/10 for the main. Roommate essay was really enjoyable, though so a 8/10.
[] Teacher Recommendation: My Chem teacher/ SO coach probably did a really nice one, if not outstanding. 7/10 My ToK/History teacher’s recommendation was probably last minute. 5/10

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths:EC, Leadership, Passion. Passion, Passion, Passion!
[] Weaknesses:Test Score, especially in math as an Engineering major.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:I was a little silly in my application. It was completely me.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: Stanford (!), Cornell, Rice, UF, and Georgia Tech
Waitlisted: Penn
Rejected: MIT, Columbia, Yale, Princeton (LOL Ivy day)

[/ul]General Comments:
I gave up after my rejections yesterday. I didn’t think I even had the slightest chance anymore. I know Stanford is special because it TRULY looked for and saw the passion that I tried to convey in all my applications. Or it is simply the one that thought I would fit, I’m not sure. Either way, I was myself and that was the most important thing. Congrats to everyone else that was accepted! Everyone else, good luck where ever you go. It’s about who you are and what you do, not where you go.

Decision: Rejected

[li] Strengths:GPA, Grades, Hours for EC’s[/li]Weaknesses:
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:

[] Weaknesses: Lack of return on investment for EC’s, some within and some way out of my control.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:At 6.6% I’m not surprised but very saddened. Guess my essays weren’t quite enough somehow, or something random they didn’t want. EC accomplishments should’ve been better. Too bad I get injured easy and cannot control changing band teachers every year.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Cal Poly SLO Engineering, Regents to UC Davis and UCSB both.
[/li]Rejected: Berkeley

[/ul]**General Comments: Just goes to show that perfect grades and perfect scores do not guarantee you will get where you want. **

[] Essays: Loved the first one. About my father and unique circumstances. Very bold and emotional in my eyes. Other essays were all strong imo, but I definitely preferred some over others.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I didn’t see them, but my bio teacher felt bad when I got deferred from Yale because she said she was too strict on my common one. I dunno how that’ll go…

[/ul]General Comments: I am so shocked, excited, and overwhelmed to be welcomed to such a wonderful community. I never, ever imagined this was an actual possibility. Felt like it was so far out of my league. Through the process I learned that if you are passionate about what you do, it really will be appreciated and recognized. It’s not just a number game, like I had expected. It’s like that quotation that “If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.” Good luck to all of those still waiting and congratulations to Stanford’s class of 2016!

Decision: Waitlisted
