General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: THE ABSOLUTE WORST PART OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS WAS WAITING FOR UC IRVINE FOR A MONTH JUST TO BE REJECTED. Hehe. On the other hand, I gave UC San Diego a call and they gave me the exact reason I was rejected because they could pull up my file and look at it. It was GPA by the way. And yes, the “chart” of point distribution is valid.

I knew what I was getting myself into, so I’m cool with it. If you need help with preparing for your application or college or whatever, PM me and I’ll be happy to help. I wish I had had some help. Perhaps I would have pushed my GPA a bit more.

Essay
I felt really good about my common application essay, but by the time I got to my Stanford supplements my mind was mush. I can hardly even remember the topics I chose.

Recommendations
Well, I know that at least one teacher was authentic in scope and stylistic character, though I fear the other teacher and my counselor wrote the standard, generic recommendations that do little to impress.

Interview
I did not have an interview with this or any college.

URM = under-represented minority (hispanics, blacks, native-americans, etc.). If you ever see ORM, that means over-represented minority, like asians at some schools.

[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Does College Dual Credit courses count? Math 115 (Statistics), Math 205 (Calculus), and English 100 (Expository Writing)

[] Senior Year Course Load: Somewhat tough. Two college courses, plus lots of art and media classes. Sounds easy, but we’re an academy-based college prep school, and art/media takes a LOT of time and patience…[/ul]

[li] Volunteer/Community service: Quality over quantity. I’ve only done about three or four community service projects, but the hours combined are easily over a couple hundred. The major one was a fundraiser for the Japanese-American veterans of WWII. I ended up personally raising over $10,500 in one month for the organization. Fifty-plus hours of effort put into that one, whoo~[/li][] Summer Activities: Lots of volunteering at a local restaurant here and at the swimming pool as a “Learn to Swim” instructor. Other than that, I’m usually chilling at home or with friends.
[] Essays: Everyone who read it loved it, so I’m banking on the fact that it was good. I liked writing it – it definitely gave people the sense of who I am and what motivates me in life.

[] Strengths: Probably the whole Hawaiian factor. Also, my essay. I like to think I’m a fairly decent writer.
[] Weaknesses: SAT scores, especially the Subject Test ones. I see the scores of everyone who’s posted and I wonder how the hell I even got into this school. And then I remember the whole URM thing and can’t help but feel a bit happy that I’m Hawaiian. lol.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: See sentence above. Also, just because I don’t have the SAT scores to show for, doesn’t mean I’m not an all-around kind of girl. I’m pretty creative too, y’know. :)[/ul][/li]
**General Comments: Even after I got rejected from Princeton and Yale, I didn’t care because I was like, “YES! STANFORD!!!” Also got accepted into the School of Cinematic Arts at USC, which was basically my dream school since last year because of my relatively newfound passion for media. It was hard to walk away from, but long story short, there were a bunch of different circumstances, and I don’t regret choosing Stanford one bit. I always wanted to go to Stanford ever since I was a kid. It’s cool how things came around full circle.
