General Comments:
I am not going to beat myself up just because I didn’t get in. I was prepared for this and merely applied to see if I could get accepted. I wish everyone the best with other schools they will be accepted to, and I wish those who were accepted the best times of their lives at this school. Invite me over if I get accepted to Cal (: or Pacific! Ha. This just makes me excited to be accepted to other places. I cannot wait to go to any college. Just because some place is regarded as a “top school” doesn’t mean there aren’t any other amazing places out there. You guys on the SCEA thread are probably some of the coolest people I’ve met and talked to over the web.

Just curious how you got accepted to both Stanford SCEA and Columbia ED. I have a feeling I don’t know how the rules at Stanford are supposed to work because I was under the impression SCEA meant you were not allowed to apply elsewhere (with some limited exceptions that do not permit a binding ED). Can you (or anyone else) let me know how this works?

Don’t feed the ■■■■■.

And best wishes from the Yale SCEA Board!

WHOA THERE, he did get into both. ST, I’m fairly sure SCEA means single choice, and if NW really did get into both, I’m really disappointed that he would apply to both… he seems the most religious in here, and doesn’t God teach you not to lie? Like you would’ve had to when you signed the Stanford SCEA agreement? But yeah, your original impression was right - you’re not allowed to apply anywhere else EA or ED, and there aren’t really exceptions, except for that colleges like Berkeley who just have a really early normal decision deadline don’t count as EA. :|

Sorry for this clutter by the way… leaving now.

correction: The only acceptance I know for that would be questbridge…

Ya…looks like Stanford wasn’t quite as bad as it was last year…nice job guys!! However, I have the same question as those above. NW applied and was accepted to Columbia ED…so you shouldn’t have applied to Stanford…

Robbie-----Hopeful Member of the Yale Class of 2014 = D

Maybe it’s two people? I think those stats are different for both, as well as activities. Or maybe it’s a ■■■■■, lol. Idk. But then he says:

That doesn’t even make sense, because he said he was accepted. Hmmm…?

2 people are using NW’s account – one is his friend. NW posted this somewhere.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:
[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): CR: 720, MATH: 800, Writing: 710
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: Literature - 740; Physics - 770; US History - 720, Math 2C - 800, Chem - 750
[] GPA: my school has a different scale I believe. I’m not quite sure how it gets translated to (un)weighted. For what it’s worth, I have a 4.167 out of a max of 4.3
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 4/160ish
[] AP (place score in parentheses): Chem(5), CalcAB(5), WorldHistory(4), USHistory(4), Statistics(4), PhysicsC-Mechanics(5), PhysicsC-E&M(5), EnglishLit(4)
[li] Senior Year Course Load: [/li]Semester 1: Graph Theory, Contemporary Fiction, Differential Equations, AP Macroeconomics, AP Bio w/ Lab, Writing Fellows
Semester 2: Combinatorics, Fear Factor: Men v. Cowards in Literature, Multivariable Calculus, AP Microeconomics, AP Bio w/ Lab, Writing Fellows
[/ul]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: influence of math in my life - 9[/li][] EC Short Answer: 8
[] Intellectual Vitality: 8
[] Roommate: 9 - It was slightly humorous but well to the point. The funnest essay I’ve written so far.
[] Why Stanford: 7-9; I recommend being as specific as you can. I even threw in the name of a Stanford professor I’m fond of and a few other specific details. At the same time, you don’t want it to be a list of facts. Make it personal.
[] Other:[/ul]
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: How am I supposed to know? We’re not allowed to see. I would guess 8-10 based purely on my respect for the teacher and what (I hope) he thinks of me.
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: 8-10. same reasoning as above.
[] Counselor Rec: 8-10. same reasoning as above.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: N/A
[] Art Supplement: N/A
Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: 11/01/09
[] State (if domestic applicant): Georgia, but I go to school in TN if that matters?
[] School Type: Private - Religious affiliated unfortunately haha
[] Ethnicity: Asian –> Indian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: I don’t think this factors into decision making. So I will not answer.
[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Passionate about learning.
[] Weaknesses: I was afraid my common app main essay might have been slightly pedantic. Even though I got accepted, I still think I can improve it. Also, I was afraid I was lacking in the extracurricular portion because my school day (including tennis practice) takes up over twelve hours of my daily schedule, leaving me little time for outside research. Nevertheless, I could have done more and I still plan to.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I did not try to fit my application into the “well-rounded” category. Sell yourself based on your strengths. They’re looking for people with strong and specific passions. Even if you really are well-rounded, focus more on one or a select few of your specific passions. Passion > Interest.
[] What would you have done differently?: Started earlier on the supplement.[/ul]
