Decision: Rejected

Objective:
• SAT I (breakdown): 1970 (660 CR, 670 M, 640 W)
• ACT:
• SAT II:
• Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4
• Weighted GPA (out of 5.0): Not sure, I know that weighted I have a 93 over 100, weighted, but I don’t know what it is equal to over 5, I don’t really think it’s 4.65
• Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): I’m homeschooled this year
• AP (place score in parentheses):
• IB (place score in parentheses): N/A
• Senior Year Course Load: Self studying 5 complete A-levels (AS + A2) in one year
• Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Didn’t have the possibility of participating in anything.

Subjective:
• Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Piano since I was 4, Flute since I was 8, I’m writing a book, Swimming, Theatre, Debate, French Club, Tennis, Track.
• Job/Work Experience: Work translating documents and websites.
• Volunteer/Community service: Form part of an organization that does a bunch of different things all across Dubai.
• Summer Activities: Working, studying

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):
• Essays (Include Subjects):
o Common App Main: About coming to Dubai, and how hard life was here for me and my family because of the crisis, and the different mentality. I’ve been told it was powerful and compelling. I think an 8 or 9
o EC Short Answer: About playing the piano. I really liked this one, maybe even a 10
o Intellectual Vitality: About Psychology and how much it always fascinated me even before I knew what psychology was, and what my fascination meant. An 8
o Roommate: I thought it was quite funny. I wrote about how unpredictable and complex I am and about how much I love reading. I’ve been told it was really good, worthy of a 10
o Why Stanford: Did three parts, the first about the campus, the second about the academic and the third about the student life. I struggled with this one, I wrote so many different versions, I would give it a 7 or 8.
o Other: Additional information, explained why I’m 15 but already graduating next year, and why I’ve been in 3 different schools since 9th grade. Even though it wasn’t really an essay, it showed a part of me that, I think, helped show some important traits. Also mentioned that I had to see a psychologist when I was younger because my school wanted to make me repeat since I was one year younger than everybody else and that the psychologist claimed that I was very smart and had a lot of imagination.
• Teacher Recommendation #1: English teacher. Probably a 9 or 10. He really liked me.
• Teacher Recommendation #2: Math teachers. No idea how much. He also really liked me, but I don’t know how or what he wrote.
• Counselor Rec: Really good, and honest. But my mom wrote it so it was probably seen as biased. I read it, it was about how I was supposed to be a junior this year and was ready to be one but then out of the blue I became a senior and how many things I had to do and how little time, and how well I coped.
• Additional Rec: None.
• Interview: None.
• Art Supplement: None.

Other
• Date Submitted App: October 28

• School Type: Homeschooled
• Ethnicity: Berber
• Gender: Female
• Income Bracket: About $45000, single-parent, with no aid from the other
• Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

Reflection
• Strengths: Strange life story, self studied 5 A levels in one year, apparently my age isn’t a strength but I think it helps, speak 5 languages, difficult background, lived in 3 countries, I’m Berber, my essays were really passionate…
• Weaknesses: ECs, awards, lack of opportunities, SAT, financial aid
• Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
• What would you have done differently?: If I had know I was going to go to college next year I would have done more ECs and sooner, and studied sooner for the SAT
