That’s weird. I had a kid interview me. He was a senior at Swat. He didn’t say anything about whether or not I was a good fit but he asked me REALLY random questions. Like how I define intelligence and why.

[ *]Advice? Commiserations? I think that the fact I didn’t have an interview (missed the deadline) really screwed me over. If you really like Swarthmore, definitely get one! Although I like the school, I doubt I would have gone if I had gotten in because I am a hardcore science student and I really want to do a lot of research in college, and I don’t think that Swarthmore had necessarily the right resources that I wanted in a college. It’s better that they rejected me than accept me and take a seat away from someone else. Congrats to those who got in! [ /list]

I most definitely do NOT feel like bragging, but it would be great if I knew what I could have improved. If anyone can tell me, I’ll be eternally grateful. I’m freaking out though, because all of my other schools I’m waiting on are more selective than Swat, and this feels like a very bad sign.

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown):
[] ACT: 36
[] SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 lit, 800 US history, 780 Physics
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.05 weighted, don’t know otherwise
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 4%, don’t know rank
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5’s on Physics B, BC Calculus, English Lit, US History, Comp government (self-studied)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: 6 classes & 3 APs
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): nope
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): A couple really obscure/strange things and drama, creative writing
[] Job/Work Experience: one summer coaching, one summer at an iPhone app company,
[] Volunteer/Community service: just what is required to graduate my school
[] Summer Activities: summer writing programs, jobs, travel
[] Essays: common app was about writing a novel, and the Why Swarthmore? was about the beauty of the arboretum campus.
[] Teacher Recommendation: both should have been lovely
[] Counselor Rec: Also one of my teachers–he said it was wonderful.
[] Additional Rec:
[li] Interview: So much fun! My guy was a lawyer and he was really interesting and recommended lots of books to me.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: no
[] Intended Major: no idea
[] State (if domestic applicant):
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type:
[] Ethnicity: mixed, no URM
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: > 200 k
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Perhaps the weird extracurriculars?
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: unusual application & essays
[] Weaknesses: I don’t really do the average things in an attempt to get into college…lots of clubs, lots of community service, etc.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: See above, not enough clubs, service, etc etc.
[] What other schools have you been accepted to/plan on going? Accepted to UChicago, Wesleyan, UCSD, UCLA, and Cal, waitlisted at WashU. Still waiting on Ivies (although chances seem a lot slimmer now), Stanford, Duke, etc.
[/ul]
General Comments: Pretty sad to get waitlisted, simply because I had such a great time with the interview. That said, Swarthmore is very small and I was worried about that, so maybe it’s for the best. Chicago is a lot bigger which might be more fun for me anyway.
