[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Wasn’t too invested in Swarthmore, so I’m not too down. Plus, they admitted around 4 people from my school already, 2 ED, so they’re restricted by class sides. I got into WashU earlier in March, and I’d probably attend St. Louis over Swarthmore, so the rejection doesn’t affect me too much. (not to say Swarthmore isn’t a fantastic school!) Good luck to everyone else! [/ul]

i never completed the full template so here goes. hopefully future applicants will find these as helpful as i did (really, one of the best resources available for roughly determining your competitiveness)

Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[]SAT: 800 M, 800 R, 770 Wr w/ 8 Essay
[]SAT II: 800 M2, 770 USH, 730 Lit
[]ACT: 35 comp, honestly don’t remember the breakdown except that my essay sucked
[]GPA: 96.66 (clearly out of 100), weighted
[]Rank: 16/126
[]Course Rigor (i imagine this is an important criterion for Swarthmore especially): hardest course load possible plus a skipped year of math w/ Calc II and Linear Algebra at LAC this year
[]Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): 5s on AP Physics B, Calc AB, Euro, and US History.
[/ul]Subjective[ul]
[]Essays: Common App fairly good, Swarthmore supplement was definitely lacking, a bit generic.
[]Teacher Recs: great
[]Counselor Rec: probably pleasant but generic
[]Supplementary Material: a CD of Cello Performance and a CD of my electronic music, constructed entirely from samples…honestly might’ve been what got me in, i can’t imagine any other way
[]Hook (recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): none
[/ul]Personal[ul]
[]Location: upstate New York
[]High School Type: small uncompetitive low-ranked public

[]Extracurriculars: Ballet, music, VP of MUN, Lit Mag Staff Member, tutoring refugees, music radio show
[]Awards: None other than National Merit and AP Scholar
[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: i was honestly completely stunned at my acceptance. swarthmore was the college i was most certain i would be rejected from. naturally i was thrilled when i saw the big letter and i think i scared away the mailman permanently because i started jumping up and down crazily and yelling unintelligibly. it’s going to be a difficult decision. at this point it’s uchicago vs. swarthmore…we’ll see what happens this week[/ul]

^^^^ did you get this by e-mail or regular mail. I’m an international student as well i want to know if they are snail mailing all decisions or just acceptances.

DecemberWish, it came by airmail this morning. All decisions are snail mail, I think.

@freakozoid thanks. i guess i should be expecting mine today. nervous.

AxelNofz thanks. D was denied. Fortunately, she also received a big envelope from Notre Dame the same day and will hear from Brown tomorrow. Those were her top 3 schools (she never got around to ranking them - a good idea IMO). She was a bit surprised as she was a DiscoSwat participant and felt she had a really good interview.

Congratulations to all accepted; best wishes to the rest. Keep in mind that there are no limits to the number of places where one can learn and thrive.

Hey, I’m an international student from the UK and I just got accepted via email!!

This is the first reply I’ve had from a college in the US and I was just wondering, is it common practice to send a notification of thanks to my interviewers? I’d really like to let them know and say thank you for any contribution they had to my application…

Thanks for the help :)

Congratulations on your acceptance to Swat! Did you send a thank you note following your interview? That’s what I had my kids do immediately following their interviews, and a good number of students do that. If you never formally thanked your interviewer after your interview, it would be a nice gesture to do that now.

Yes, I did. I suppose it’s true I did already thank them! I had forgotten about that.

Manners is a good thing. These folks work pretty darn hard. D is mailing thank you notes to all the school admission offices in which she was accepted (& even the one’s she was waitlisted/rejected). Simply good Karma all around.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
These are my son’s stats, posted to inform future year applicants, just as past years’ have benefited us. Even though he got into top flight national universities, the LAC fit that Swat offers was a better match for him.

^Dear Lord, I’m going to be the least qualified person at Swarthmore…

I have NO idea how I even got in.
