***Official Swarthmore Class of 2020 RD Thread***

@yosemite1 its on admission site

hey! did anybody get an invite to swatstruck though an email by bti travel?

Anybody knows how many early writes sent so we can figure out how many spots are left for the 24th?

I got the email today that said they will be released on the 24th and at the bottom it said they received a lot of apps and they wanted to thank everyone for the time it took to submit. Does that mean I didn’t get in lol? It was kind of like a “we received a record number” kind of thing you see at the beginning of a rejection letter but it was just the email for when decisions would be released.

@Islandmg I got an early write from Swarthmore and received that e-mail also, so it’s probably just a standard email sent to all applicants. I don’t think that the wording of the e-mail has any bearing on your application status/decision!

@Islandmg I got the same e-mail and I was thinking exactly the same lol

@Islandmg I also received that email. I do not think it’s indicative one way or another-my guess is everyone got the same email, although of course I can’t be sure. I actually took solace from the fact that they DIDN’T say there were a record number of applications. Hearing that would have made me even more anxious.

One week, everyone!!! Hope you’re finding good ways to pass the time. For how many people is Swat your first choice? It’s certainly mine.

Hi! For anyone worrying about early writes/ likely letters. Only a select few go out like maybe 100-150 and I know a lot of them went to people who were in Discover Swarthmore. So don’t worry if you didn’t get one. You still have a good chance.

@kiwiblossom12 you have no idea how much better that makes me feel! I really love Swarthmore and I know my chances are slim already, so knowing that the early letters do not impact the overall acceptance number too much is nice.

Does anyone know the percentage of people admitted ED? or how may spots there still are for RD?

Did anyone else here not do the interview? I missed the deadline and I’m worried it negatively impacted my application. It seemed to affect decisions for Bowdoin - from reading the thread, of the people who commented that they didn’t do the interview, none got in (I also missed the interview for them and ended up with a waitlist myself)

@Smythe I personally don’t think an interview makes it or breaks it. It probably shows how interested you are in a college, and it might come into play if you’re a similar applicant to someone else (who did happen to interview). Interviews are another way to get to know an applicant, so if you showed your personality through your essays or something, then I definitely think you’re fine

Wait, we had an interview deadline? Does it apply for international students too?

@kiwiblossom12 : “I know a lot of them went to people who were in Discover Swarthmore…”

Why would that be?

I don’t know about you guys, but I am literally praying to the admission gods right now…

all this waiting really isn’t helping my psychological state

@Smythe I didn’t do an interview, either. I actually didn’t even plan on applying until December 31st so I definitely missed the deadline. I was able to twist it into a unique thing for my supplement at least. I don’t think interviews are a make or break thing, either.
Good luck everyone!

@Waiting2exhale A lot of the letters go to students who were in Discover Swarthmore because the school has already invested in them ( plane tickets, food, hosts, $$$). Getting into discover Swarthmore means that the school thinks you are an excellent candidate and so when “likely” letters come out it’s not surprising that a lot will go to students who were in the fly out. I had a friend who went to Windows on Williams and there the admissions officer told her that about 90% of WOW students get into the college. So you can kind of say getting into the fly out is like an early early acceptance ( but they won’t ever officially say this)

@acorn1216 Swarthmore probably won’t release officials numbers till later but the generally rule of thumb is that ED fills up about 40-50% of the class.

@kiwiblossom ahaha…that makes me nervous lol. I was a DiscoSwat participant, but no news. Ah well, just gotta wait and see :stuck_out_tongue:

@kiwiblossom12 Thanks for the info! That doesn’t really assuage my anxiety but it’s nice to know (and it helps me lower my hopes of getting in haha)

Everyone excited for tomorrow! If would be so cool if I got in

I hope everyone gets in!! I was rejected from one of my top choices yesterday and honestly don’t feel like Swarthmore will accept me either but I hope it all goes splendidly for you!
