Official TCNJ/UMDNJ thread for tommorow

Mel5140 - yeah I received my acceptance pretty late. It was probably near the 2nd week of April and it came via mail. So, don't worry - patience is virtue (but very hard to deal with...)

anyone else get accepted into tcnj/umdnj???

hydrogen - aren't you in the Rutgers-NJMS program though? TCNJ-UMDNJ calls all of the applicants personally. Since canadianzain heard Friday late afternoon, I assume that Dr. Shevlin notified all of the accepted candidates yesterday and will calll those rejected next week???

ACCEPTED BY HARVARD; REJECTED BY UMDNJ (wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Valedictorian of my class was deferred - higher GPA about 4.6-4.7 weighted, 800 on Crit Rdg 790 on Math and 650 on Writing; also a star violinist but i don't think as many EC's as me; essays make a huge difference as they are looking for your voice; also she is shy and may not have interviewed as well. My interviewer said that I was a good fit for Yale since my desire to learn is the most important thing they are looking for.We talked about my academic plans.
My Harvard interviewer e-mailed me:
Congratulations! I was just informed you have been accepted into the Harvard Class of 2010. During our interview, I was extremely impressed with your unique personality, easy-going enthusiasm, and intellectual acumen, attributes I made sure would come across in my report. I hope, if you have not done so already, you decide to spend your next four years at Harvard. The Harvard experience exceeded all my expectations as, I'm sure, it will exceed all of yours. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Take care, be well, and congratulations once again.

Wanted to let everyone know from TCNJ that decisions are out and only the successful applicants were notified on Friday. There will be no telephone calls to rejects; they will send a form letter. Sorry bonder.

Have to wonder how political this process is at the medical school. An interviwer came out and talked to the father of one applicant about how accomplished his daughter was; she doesn't even live in new jersey. Of course, her father is a doctor. Have to wonder since my parents aren't doctors if I really ever had a chance. Sorry to sound bitter but I was accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Williams, and Dartmouth. I have to wonder if any other applicant to UMDNJ was accepted to all those schools.

i didnt post on here after i heard from stevens so i just wanted to say that tcnj also called me yesterday if anyone were wondering.

I don't think that the process is political. Neither of my parents are doctors. You should be happy that you were accepted by all those colleges because I know plenty of people with similar stats who got rejected from those places. These med programs are very picky and the final results are unpredictable. I felt the same way when I was waitlisted by cornell. A few other kids at my school had worse stats and still got into cornell. But I wasn't to angry about it because I knew that perhaps I didn't show enough enthusiasm on my app (I wasn't planning on attending anyways). And remember, med programs are completely different from ivys. Even thought both are very competitive, med programs look for completely different characteristics than ivys. Someone who got into a med program could easily get rejected from an ivy and vice versa.

Anyways, good luck to anyone who is still waiting for a program.

geez mel5140 u dont have to sound so bitter, and stop gloating about ur resume and acceptances, take it like a man, learn to be resilient from your rejections and move along

bonder123: I wish you much luck with your other pre-med program acceptances. Sorry if I sound bitter- it was my first choice.

mel5140: Congrats. Enjoy Harvard, it's much better than the UMDNJ program.

Mel5140: How exactly do you know that only the accepted students were called on Friday? Did you call TCNJ and actually ask or do you think that is what happened?

im curious to know also, how do u kno mel5140?

I sent an e-mail on Saturday afternoon to Claire Giblin, Program Assistant for BA/MD in Dr. Shevlin's office. She had told me before that she checks e-mails throughout the weekend. She telephoned me minutes later and said that indeed, they received the list of names from UMDNJ and that she was very sorry that my name was not on the list. She said that everyone accepted had been telephoned on Friday and that the balance of applicants (rejected) would receive a form letter this week. I am really sorry about the bad news but wanted everyone to know.

Rejected as well, have slightly better sats than the wench above (mel150) who keeps whining about getting rejected. Want to know why you didn't make UMDNJ, but made all those other great schools? Because affirmative action doesn't factor in (or at least as much) for medical programs. Enjoy knowing you got into HYP...because you're puerto rican.

if it helps Mel...i can tell where u prob could have improved

remember...UMDNJ has only 150 spots, and people from out-of-state can apply (85% NJ get accpeted though), so your competing wit the best of the best

SAT: 2240 (800 Crit Rdg, 700 Math, and 740 Writing) - always room for improvement there
SAT IIs: Math Level 2 - 760, Chem 760, Spanish 750 - why didn't you take Biology???
GPA: 4.3 Weighted - never computed my unweighted - is that like 4.3/4.9??
Rank: top 3% (8/275) - your rank is pretty solid

Teacher Recs: great - english teacher showed me his rec - said i am one of few who has geniune interest in learning for the sake of learning and that i am a superlative writer) - did you get a biology/science teacher rec??

Other: well rounded (EC's musician -3 instruments, Key Club, community service, Tae Kwon Do, Science Olympiad, Translator for migrants in my area. hospital volunteer, Marching Band, etc.) - good EC's

overrall your stats were good, not much science/med oriented stuff though, good luck at HYP
