wow. i am getting nothing. my efc was like way higher than that lol. but i havent recieved an offer yet. o well. guess im not going here. no school is worth it/affordable @ 35,000 per year. No way im putting myself in 140,000 debt

So I sent it January 13ish. They received it 3/08/10 LOL. Don’t think I’m gonna get anything anyways since EFC is 17,000. OOS BTW. Any idea on how long it will take?

oos also. i sent my fafsa the first week of january and it says it was received on 3/8, just like others here

I spoke to the financial aid office yesterday. She told me they have not done the financial aid matches yet. My daughter did not have her SS # on her application so I needed to get it to them. I asked if the aid was already given out and she said they have yet to match aid to students. After reading this blog I am confused.

I read somewhere on elion that financial aid packets should be done by may.

I’m trying to find that source right now.

To be fair - in the admissions presentation, the adcom folks say quite clearly that financial aid for freshman is not generous. They do comment that once within your college/major and with good grades - there is a lot more money available.

So, we went in knowing this and made decisions accordingly. The only FA/scholarship from PSU that my son will be getting is from the Honors College. The rest is on us.

Given the economy, I believe PSU risks losing many top students if they don’t provide some help to families in these times. We are a perfect example- two professional degree family who up until 3 years ago had no financial consraints when it came to college. One job loss later (double IVY professional degree’d parent) we are more pragmatic and looking at rate of return since verone gets an undegraduate degree these days and work experience and grad school are more outcome determinative, in our experience, than undergrad.

Hope someone from PSU is reading this because it appears that some fine students on this site will be financially disenfranchised.

same. psu is out of the question if i need to pay 30,000 a year and i rlllly wanted to go here

<<hope someone=“” from=“” psu=“” is=“” reading=“” this=“” because=“” it=“” appears=“” that=“” some=“” fine=“” students=“” on=“” site=“” will=“” be=“” financially=“” disenfranchised.=“”>></hope>

I feel the similarly about Texas and UT. There are some FINE students -willing to pay in-state tuition with minimal aid - but who aren’t able to get in because they aren’t in the top 10%.

As for PSU - yes, paying that chunk of change is going to be nasty. And we have gone round and round over this (especially with other schools offering full scholarships). But, for my son, PSU - hands down - offers him everything he wants (including a joint BS/MS option) while the other schools can’t come close.

Difficult financial decision, but we have come to grips with it.

$5,550. That’s it. As great a school this is, there is no way I’m borrowing all that money. I didn’t get any loans at all. I’m still in shock.

I’m a little ticked off with the aid that I received from Penn State. The aid: Pell Grant–$5500 and Acacdemic Competiviness Grant–$750; a great travesty by the Penn State student aid office. My EFC is 0, and it’s sucks that I received a amount, like that,

TCU gave me a somewhat better offer, than this “aid” by Penn State

Did you get an email directing you to go see your financial aid award, or did you just check every day?

bmsa-That doesn’t sound too good…:(

wow this is pretty ridiculous considering my EFC is wayy to low.

@slipjig. Nah, man, I didn’t get an email. I hope, that this was just a “preliminary” draft or something, because its bs aid, that I received from a top school in the United States. I checked on eLION, though, by chance.

Thank you. This is what mine says:

Warning Message
We received your 2010-11 FAFSA on 03/08/10; however you have not yet been considered for financial aid for the fall and spring semesters. Please note that awarding of 2010-11 financial aid begins in mid-March. You will be notified to view your Student Aid Summary in eLion, after you have been awarded aid.

Why is that a “Warning?”

You did not have your FAFSA in by the due date for first-year students. Therefor they will consider Fin aid first for all the freshmen who turned it on on time and then they will consider yours.

But I did turn it in on time. My mom sent in the preliminary on Jan 2., and then sent the amended form again before Feb. 15 due date when the accountant finished the taxes.

I got a notice from another school today in the mail that I’m not eligible for Federal need-based grants. Our EFC is around $4000.

I’m bummed.

PSU downloaded ALL the FAFSA data on March 8, 2010. As long as your FAFSA Student Aid Report was marked as processed and completed before that date, PSU considers that you filed your FAFSA in a timely manner.

hmm, I’m not sure then. The fact that is was in rather late made me think of that reason. I would call Fin aid on Monday to clarify with them.
