Official Thread for 2014 Applicants!

I was accepted to film, and I submitted a rec from my counselor, a science class, and my orchestra teacher/conductor. They also want you to have a Teacher Evaluation sheet from the common app filled out, so I had a History teacher do that for me. So I covered the spectrum I suppose.

I was accepted to film and my recs were from a counselor, ap history teacher, ap english teacher, and theology teacher.

Okay great thanks! I just wanted to make sure to mail them our artistic recs. I know some schools want them with portfolios/interviews/auditions and I wasn’t sure if they wanted us to mail it to them or not. But now I do. Thank you!

Why Emerson? It is superior for its curriculum and its journalism program. It will give me an education and a genuine feel for what it takes to be a journalist- in a way that other colleges will lack
What do you look forward to the most at Emerson? Finally being able to get hands-on and figure out what I want to do with journalism, getting to know people with similar personalities, being able to live in Boston (awesome city), SNOW! (I’m in georgia, cut me some slack haha), being more mobile
What do you fear the most at Emerson? Not having enough money, the isolation from what I am used to, not receiving the education that I expect, being ostracized from people because of having to work or study
Why you think you were accepted/rejected: n/a
Other schools your are/were considering: University of Georgia, Penn State, NYU, Valdosta State University, AASU (The last two are my last resorts)

I know my chances are slim to none, after seeing some of the stats of people accepted so far, but its worth a try. Just throwing my hat into the ring and hoping for the best.

I got a accepted about a month or two ago, whenever the early action decisions came out!
Im not sure if I will go, but im super excited to have gotten in.

Does anyone know when regular decision admission letters will be sent out?

Spoke with Admissions and Financial Aid today. They told me that letters go out for admission decisions next week and the Financial Aid letters go out starting on the 22nd.

wait, I thought we didn’t get our letters until April 1st.

hey saw this. i got into Emerson’s BFA Acting program early action but i called today to see when I will know about the acting scholarship and they told me that they send it out along with regular action admission decisions. the admissions office is running early on the decisions ( i guess an easier time this year) and they said in the next week and a half you will know =)

What does an Emerson acceptance letter look like? 9x12 with a thick brochure inside maybe? Or is that more likely a request for additional financial info (got an email about tax forms 2 days ago)?

The mail just came, son’s at work, Mom is dying to know if this is it…

When my older daughter got in in 2007 the acceptance was in a 9x12 with a thick brochure in it. WMassMom…it sounds promising!! Let us know.
My younger D is waiting to hear. She was deferred EA and it is her first choice.

Yes, it was the proverbial fat envelope - my S was accepted RD to Film and Television Screen writing, as well as the Honors Program & trustees scholarship. This is his first application response received, so we’re very happy! A friend of his who applied was also accepting into the film making program today.

No financial aid info yet - the letter said that info would go out March 22.

Jillybean, hope your D get a positive response!

Congrats to your son, WMassMom!! My D also applied for the Writing for Film & Television program. Really hoping she gets in. She said if she doesn’t she will try to transfer in next year.

Congrats WMassMom! How exciting for your S and for everyone else still waiting to learn that decisions are starting to come in! :)

S applied RD. Auditioned BA Acting and we’re kind of second guessing that decision. He didn’t feel great about his audition and I feel bad about that because he got sick for his NYC date and we rescheduled for 2 days later because they were still in NYC. I probably should have given him more time to recuperate and driven to Boston but that’s hindsight. I’m also wondering if he should have auditioned for MT because he’s an awesome singer and they don’t know that now although they can figure it out by looking at his resume. But reading it is not the same as hearing it. Anyway, this is all just worrying to pass the time waiting for the decision! His second major choice was Writing, Lit and Publishing and he did submit some samples of his work so maybe that will be where he ends up. Also applied to Honors program.

He does have a friend, Class of 2013, who was accepted last year but didn’t get enough money. I believe Emerson emailed her and told her that there were spots AND money available for spring transfers so she applied, got in and got enough money to go. She is thrilled and loves Emerson. Just some info for anyone who gets rejected, waitlisted or doesn’t get enough money…if Emerson is your school, don’t be afraid to try again 2nd semester freshman year!

Best of luck, all!

Accepted to Marketing Communications: advertising and public relations program!
I also got the Emersonian Scholarship (10k a year)

Acceptance letter came in the mail today (Journalism). It’s a large envelope. Did not have financial aid info, but did offer the Dean’s Scholarship (14,000).

Oh well…my D was deferred EA and now has been waitlisted…boo (: I am pleased with how well she is taking it as Emerson is her first choice. She has already filled out and stamped the reply that she wants to remain on their waitlist. Just will be a long wait!!
