***Official Thread for 2014 BSMD applicants***

Applying to fame pact umsi rice/Baylor Baylor/Baylor and bu smed. What about y’all 2014 applicants?

@t14premed, she applied to PACT, FAME, BU, PSU/Jefferson, RPI/AMC, WashU BS/MD, PLME at Brown, Oxford in England, and St Andrew’s in Scotland. Only interviewed at BU, RPI/AMC, Oxford, and St Andrew’s and offered at BU and St Andrew’s.

Is the deadline for Drexel fast track bs/md programs Nov 15th?

DocDaFuture, you finish your rice/baylor app yet? I’m almost done with planning on submitting sometime afternoon/evening.

@matrix yeah dude I finished it a few weeks ago. Where else are you applying? Where do you hope to get in?

a few weeks ago? haha early bird i see  I’m applying Rice/Baylor, WashU USPM (i know the chances are kinda pointless for washu especially lolol) and Brown PLME. Only 3 cause i really am looking for a good fit undergrad which has some strong academics and i didn’t see that in most of the other programs. u man?

@istrum123 the deadline for the Drexel/Drexel BS/MD was November 1st while the Lehigh/Drexel BS/MD and Villanova/Drexel BS/MD programs were due on November 15th.

I just sent in my Rice Baylor app. I haven’t gotten a login code to check the status of my Rice app yet… do they send confirmation they received it? That was last week

@istrum123, the drexel program deadlines vary based on which UG you’re applying through. Most, including drexel/drexel were november 1st though. Are you applying by any chance?

@matrix I hope to get into either PACT or FAME and stay in good ol Texas  but the chances of pact and fame are super slim…so probably gonna do regs 4+4 route if that doesn’t come through for me :/

Yeah same here. Not so sure about fame but pact yep. And maybe Baylor/Baylor too

Thanks @coloredenigma!
@Greensage - was looking at Rosemont and was wondering if I have till Dec 1st. Checking previous years threads saying only 50% make it to Drexel is making me think twice though.

Someone mentioned in another thread that Baylor/Baylor shortlisting has been set.

@t14 STAY POSITIVE!!! I am sure that good things will happen and you never know with these 8 year programs!

I JUST SUBMITTED RICE/BAYLOR!!! feeling good that i have one more app off my chest and on its way electronically to one of the best schools in the country/world and hopefully will warrant good news in the coming months!

(tbh this college applications is exhausting, i just finished my 4th one and I am already mentally exhausted hahaha, its gonna be a LONG winter break)

@doctor43 as per Rice’s apply freshman process website under their deadlines and plans tab, it gives you a chart of when you need to do what. Under the Rice Baylor part, it says that "Last applicable standardized test dates:(see decision plan you selected) " and if you are a RD applicant, it states:

Last applicable SAT/SAT
Subject test date:
December 7, 2013
Last applicable ACT
test date:
December 14, 2013
Last applicable TOEFL
test date: December 2013
Last applicable IELTS
test date:
December 14, 2013

If you are December SAT and are Rice/Baylor, they probs will look at it… im guessing… u taking december sats?

@istrum123, yeah i understand. I think a 50-50 chance is really pretty decent actually when compared to the programs with NJMS (crazy requirements+crazy acceptance rates). I submitted my app for Rosemont quite a while ago before November 1st simply because I had finished everything. I only got an e-mail with the Drexel supplement for it today. I still haven’t done the interview for it though

@GreenSage, good to hear that you have received the Drexel supplemental for Rosemont. My son also received his today. Are you going for the 3+4 or 4+4 or both? I am trying to “encourage” my son to go for the 4+4 instead of 3+4 since he is still very young (currently 15) and I think he would do better taking his time. Have you applied to any other Drexel programs?

@IMGDAD, According to the e-mail, I apparently qualify for both the 3+4 and 4+4 so I’m assuming they will just consider you for both…? And yeah, I understand your reasoning for your son. I just turned 16. We’re quite young compared to the primarily 17-18 age group applying. My parent’s have different views than you though, so they “encourage” me towards the 7 years haha.

I have applied to several of the other Drexel programs: Drexel/drexel, rosemont, kean, monmouth, villanova, muhlenberg, ursinus (last minute; not really sure about it but the app was free so why not). Which other ones is your son applying to?
Looking back, I should have applied to west chester, but I didn’t really look into that one until a bit after the deadline. I’m applying to enough already, anyway.

Did you son already do the Rosemont interview? I know we have until late February, but I just feel anxious not getting things done asap.

@GreenSage, good to hear that you are leaning heavily towards the Drexel programs. My son only applied to Rosemont, Muhlenberg, and Robert Morris. His choice is rather limited because we are in Texas, but only until recently that I decide to relocate to the Northeast early next year, most likely either Drexel or Penn State Hershey. He did apply to Kean and Monmouth but pulled out after being told he was not eligible because of residency status. He has not had his interview yet but hope to have this done when we move to PA early next year.

As parent of a child who is academically advanced, it is always very difficult to balance between not wanting the child to waste his/her time and wanting the child to be challenged academically, and trying not to rob the child of his/her childhood. Even though he will be applying to Rosemont for both the 3+4 and 4+4 programs, he will make it clear in his application that he prefers the 4+4 because I want him to really have a good time before he goes to the medical school. He has already had some sacrifices at his high school for being academically advanced and as a result, be not having as many friends as he could have.

@doc43 yes it does. Email fame if it doesn’t
