Good morning All!
Anybody received NJMS interview thru Rutgers or Caldwell?
You have until April 15th to accept or decline the FAME invitation.
Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to look at my post. I am thankful for all of you who can take the time to respond to this question. I plan on applying next year, as I am currently a junior. Do I have the stats to get into direct med?
Here they are:
Unweighted GPA: 3.89
Weighted GPA: 4.24
ACT Composite: 35
ACT English: 35
ACT Math: 36
ACT Reading: 33
ACT Science: 34
PSAT: 229
SAT total: 2340 (1560)
Chemistry: 760
Math Lvl. 2: 800
Biology: 740
I have taken and self studied a grand total of 13 APās. In 12 of these, I earned a 5, while I earned a 4 on AP Lang.
I received a 5 in AP Chem, AP Calc AB, APUSH, AP Macro, AP Micro, AP Psych, AP Calc BC, AP Comp Sci, AP Stats, AP Bio, AP Physics: Mechanics, and AP French.
Iāve been in varsity tennis for one year
I qualified for nationals for Econ Challenge, HOSA, and DECA
Iām also an award winner at Chem, Bio, and Physics Olympiads
As for volunteering, I have spent time in hospitals, I have gone to India for volunteer work (where I helped young underprivileged children learn morals along with my friends), and I have a grand total of around 900 volunteer hours.
I am an officer for French Club, HOSA, DECA, Interact Club, Model UN, and Iām a member of my cityās youth council and part of NHS at my school. In addition, I was the captain of the JV tennis team for one season.
I have earned many awards as a middle schooler, but I doubt they will help for the application process.
I plan on shadowing a couple of physicians over the summer, but my main main MAIN WORRY is my GPA. Is a 3.89 really enough for a BA/MD or BS/MD program??? I know many of you will say yes, however, I want to be looked at as a very competitive applicant next year. Also, I received a C- in AP Calc AB in the first semester of sophomore year because my teacher didnāt understand I was sick and thought I was skipping and gave me a 0 on a 100 point test even though I begged her⦠not an excuse but really what had happened (gotta explain it in my essay).
I plan on applying next year to the following direct med programs:
Wayne Med Start
Boston University
Drexel/Drexel
Howard 6-year
Penn State/Jefferson
University of Miami HPME
I have my in state university as a back up just in case I donāt make it to any of theseā¦
So, do you think I have the stats to make it in? Do I even have a chance???
@MegRyan2015ā
@randombowssā
I got an interview at NJMS through Caldwell by email.
@johnd4413ā
You have a pretty impressive profile actually, besides that unweighted GPA. Solid test scores and APs, and competing at nationals for HOSA and DECA will definitely make you stand out. I would suggest applying to the more competitive programs like NU HPME and PLME too. You might have a chance there. By the way, you say that you are an award winner for Chem, bio, and physics Olympiad. Does that mean that you were part of our national Olympiads such as USABO?
@burningred, when did you get the mail, also are you in state or OSS.Thanks.

I didnāt get one yet and I am out of state.
Accepted into UTSA FAME!!..got it kind of late
My friends daughter (OOS) contacted admissions office Drew/NJMS BA/MD program commencing Fall 2015.
They received 88 applications. 49 applicants who met basic academic criteria of a 3.8 GPA and 1400 on the SAT were interviewed by Drew. 27 of these applicants were forwarded to NJMS. NJMS is in the process of interviewing students and their final decisions will be made by end of March.
