***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

For those of you that got in, how long have you guys been doing hospital/medical related volunteering?

Is anyone accepting GRU/MCG BS/MD admission offer?

Just find out from SND site that one of Ivy graduate (H/Y/P/C) did not get into any MD medical schools this cycle. Student’s stats are: 3.2 GPA and 31 MCAT. Student stated that he/she has graduated from top 5 college in US.
Ivy did not carry much weight in this case.

congrats to everyone!
to future applicants: dont worry to much about scores people with 27-36 acts get in

I’ve heard stories about people going to Ivy league schools for undergrad and ending up at carribean/d.o. schools… so yeah i dont know how much going to an Ivy league undergrad will “guarantee” you a med school seat.

It would be nice of the current applicants to post on the results page.

I agree to help the incoming year
One should post in result section

My son was lucky enough to get into a couple of direct med programs. He decided to go to RPI’s 7years BS MD, but he received Howard University’s 6 years BS MD offer this week. Howard University offered him the Presidential Scholarship (Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, Book Voucher, & Laptop) for 6 years/ 12 Sems. We are expecting about $300K cost difference between the programs. Can you please help us to take the right decision? Is anybody on this forum attending/attended the Howard University BS MD?
Thanks for your help.

The key point to decide between two md program( beside dollars and locale ) lies in the reputation of medical school and their success in getting their graduates into top notch residency
I don’t know either but certain med school have greater reputation which helps you when it really counts

Thanks for posting/sending the comments on my earlier post

@michBSMD - As a parent, I look at 300k being 300k which is a lot of money. It takes a lot of years as doctor to pay it off if your son has to borrow it.

@MichBSMD, the $300,000 difference between the 7 year BS/MD at RPI/Albany and 6 year BS/MD Howard U/Howard Med is very HUGE. Quite a nice house can be bought with that amount of money.

RPI as an undergrad is ranked much higher as a national university (their strength is in Engineering) than Howard undergrad. So if there is a very real possibility that he may not like medicine and may want to do a degree in Engineering or in the sciences, then RPI is the better bet. But once you hit the med school, both are essentially in the same category.

Now both Howard Med and Albany Med are relatively low-tier med schools, in terms of overall school reputation and in USWNR rankings. So in this specific direct-comparison scenario, I would definitely choose the cheaper option and go with the 6 year BS/MD Howard program.

@MichBSMD how much research did your son do to get into the RPI program since it does have an emphasis on research. Also, for those who got into BA/MD programs, what humanities focuses are you guys doing?

@butterfli23 i PMed you :slight_smile:

Hi!

I’m currently in the process of applying to UTD, and I wish to apply to the PACT program here as well. I was wondering if anyone knew this year’s short answers and essays for the PACT program now, since I’m not sure if the prompts I’ve found so far are for this year, and I can’t access the actual application for PACT until I have completed applying for UTD. I’d like to get started drafting soon!

Thanks so much

(Also, if anyone knows the University of Houston accelerated med program short answers/essays, I would appreciate a link to find those as well.)

Could you please give the information for an 2016 applicant on what credentials made your D to get accepted into UTSA/FAME?

Can anyone share the supplement application for Drexel? It’s really annoying they don’t let you access it until you turn in your commonap
