@chasingmymd1 Yes, they do seem to be getting harder… I got rejected from the Lehigh one as well. What?! They said March?! Because when I called them twice, they said late January… this is getting a bit frustrating.
My Siena interview was… intense. The weather was perfectly fine, the storm wasn’t as bad as they thought it would have been…
They asked some pretty interesting questions, like some “medical psychological situation” questions and some questions about my grades, and also some completely random questions that you could never study for that seem facetious but are, in fact, quite important. Overall, I have no idea how it went, I hope it went well… I guess we will have to see!
Not knowing about UConn sucks though. Where did you hear the information about March from?
@ViveLaSuisse
I called Uconn in mid-december though I should probably note that they told me the LATEST I would hear back is March. We might end up hearing back from them well before that.
I was rejected Lehigh and Villanova too, so join the club! I have macaroni and cheese and barbecue lays (aka comfort food).
So for the Siena interview, they didn’t ask you about research at all? I know the emphasis is on service but I thought they would at least ask some basic “tell me about your research” stuff. Also did you get the feeling that they’ve already decided who will be accepted or does the interview seem to be a blank slate for everyone?
@Dildil I got a paper letter today. And it’s okay, i’ve heard a lot of able applicants get rejected pre-interview And it’s a BA/MD anyways… I’m more interested in a BS/MD
Any body interviewed with SBU/GW? Could you share some interview info with us please? What questions they asked etc. My D has hers this Sat. Hope the weather would be okay. Thanks for cheering us up @chasingmymd1. My D didn’t get an invite to do any GWU/GWU BA/MD supplement beyond she did in Common App though. So…
@chasingmymd1 I called UConn about two weeks ago and they told me late January… hmmm. If I don’t find out by sometime early February, I’ll call one of the professors that I know there that is part of that program and inquire directly. I really wish they just had a more clear process!
HAHA I HAD COMFORT FOOD TOO but more vegetarian-esque haha
I mean, for Siena, they did ask about the internship that I did at a hospital, and what made me want to become a doctor, but there wasn’t a heavy emphasis on that as one would expect from such an interview.
The guys who interview you have studied your file very, very closely - as a matter of fact, the first thing that they said when I sat down was that I got a not so great grade one semester in one math class in my sophomore year, which caught me a little bit off guard as that is a very direct first comment/question. When I explained that I had stretched myself and I had doubled up in math that year and that if they saw the final grade, they would see that I raised it, they seemed satisfied with that and moved on. So I think that yes, no one applicant has an advantage when they walk in, but they know your application very well and have notes on everything, so just be cautious and think rationally.
Have you applied/gotten an interview for that program?
@ViveLaSuisse
I’m interviewing for Siena in the next few weeks, and it’s one of my top programs so I’m really hoping that I don’t mess up or anything! One of my relatives went through the program and she loved it.
I don’t know if you’re instate or not for Uconn, but I heard that they don’t have that many spots open for OOS students, of whom I am one. And yeah last year, people were discussing how Uconn never contacted them back and rejected them so they were basically waiting for a notification until late February. One poster called it “disgraceful” lol.
@chasingmymd1 Aha, I see… well, good luck on your interview then!!! It’s a great program, I hope it goes well for both of us!
I’m actually instate for UConn, so I know I at least I do have a slight advantage there (although don’t lose hope because I do know OOS students who went there, a few spots are still some spots). It’s my top choice, because of great tuition, great research opportunities, relatively close proximity, and the campus is really nice. I really hope I get in. It would be nice if they let us know, yeah, like with the rest of the combined programs… I wonder why they’ve chosen to take the path of obscurity? Regardless, I’ll post my decision and if I call them, what they say on here so that you and everyone else knows - best of luck to you on that too!
@chasingmymd1 @ViveLaSuisse i’ve been having a pretty bad experience with Uconn… Apparently i was missing some recommendation even though i had 7 recommendations on the common app and no one thought to notify me. I sent them a courtesy email to see what was happening and i found out that i’m not being considered anymore. -- and i’m oos anyways so even if i do try to shoot some emails and phone calls what good would it do :neutralface: but good luck to you guys!
Thanks @jb9832 ! Yeah, their process was overly complicated - I had to ask every single one of the people who wrote my 9 or so recommendations to sign the UConn form and then have them send in a hard copy of the recommendation itself with the form attached - too complicated. Thank goodness I did figure it out in time though! I’m sorry that they did that to you, that’s not fair but best of luck on your other apps!
Has anyone heard from TCNJ after their interview? My S interviewed on 1/12 and they said that they will start interview notifications in 2 weeks but he has not heard anything. Has anyone else heard from TCNJ for an interview with NJMS?
OMG did anyone interview for Sbu/gw yet??? Did u guys like the campus? Was the interview pretty chill? hopefully its not brutal And hopefully yall did great!
Just any general info appreciated. A lot of people didn’t like the campus but wat do u think? does it seem like a nice school?
I interviewed at saint bonaventure last weekend. Three part interview, pretty relaxed. One with dr. Thomas, one with a faculty member, and a group interview. Group is really laid back. Faculty wasn’t bad, questions about yourself and what you like to do. Dr Thomas is more of a “why medicine” kind of deal.
The campus is beautiful. You definitely have to like the campus to be able to see yourself there though since it is in the middle of nowhere and very cold. Bring snow boots to go on the tour!
Hoping for good news in the next couple of weeks. Good luck everyone!
@chihuahua1 @bamd2014
@ViveLaSuisse Thanks! I think all of the emails and such paid off! Director of Admissions at UCONN told me that the SPiM committee would fully consider me… Who knows how fully, especially after this dispute, but it’s better than outright disqualification that they atleast look at my file!
@jb9832 Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were successful in your quest to be re-considered! That’s awesome. I’m sure that if they said they would consider you, that they really will… plus, I’m sure a lot of the people on the panel who will make the decision don’t even know about your communication difficulties!
If they don’t respond by the end of the month though, I’m calling them… I can’t wait until late February or March!
@ViveLaSuisse haha I just got the news that I’d be finally considered only this morning! You’re fine and yeah you should maybe send a general email, but in the email I got telling me that I would be considered, the dean of admissions said that the decisions would be out by march
