***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

@APScholar18 25% chance from the interview seems like a pretty realistic ratio. I am just surprised that they do not interview more and accept more because I do not think that the matriculation rate to the program is probably that high.

@BSMDbound almost every program I have seen has a 40%-50% acceptance rate from interview stage.

@BSMDbound around 8~10 matriculate to the program (well, at least in the past)

I feel like they (hofstra) doesn’t even know… Everyone is giving out diff info as to when decsions will be released until

Got Hofstra email notification on Tuesday, Feb 16th for interview. Supplemental application was sent out on Jan 30th.

@APScholar18 You got me curious… To your knowledge what is the typical acceptance rate (and subsequent matriculation… Yields) from interview phase to REMS and PPSP programs?

Hi,

I am a Hispanic student from western PA and I am really wanting to get into a BS/MD program. I am fully aware of the near impossible chances of getting into BS/MD programs, but there is nothing I want and thrive for more than to become a doctor and get accepted to a BS/MD program. My scores aren’t great… and I am wondering if I have ANY chance at all in getting into BS/MDs in PA. My credentials are below as well as a current resume… please let me know of my chances in getting into any BS/MD possible… Idealy I want to get into Brown PLME, but I’ve been looking at other BS/MDs in PA which are listed at the bottom… will being hispanic be helpful at all in this process!!!

@cgonzalez108 I am assuming you would be graduating next year? Sorry if I come out harsh but would be frank below. Activities without leadership does not gain much. Things you have done does not show passion towards MD. Hours of volunteer need to really get into 250 and other medical related activities/ clubs need to come up. They all say holistic approach but its all in the numbers ACT 32 gives you a very very low probability. Any body this year from PA with 32 and has an interview call can help you more. Also not sure on your school but kids are graduating with 12 or so AP courses. Remember traditional route is what 90% of MDs use to get in so not getting thru BS/MD does not end your final goal.

To be honest, you probably need to have your test scores, GPA, and research more impressive. Those programs you listed are intensively competitive.

One of the great things about bs/md programs for me is that it is strictly a meritocracy, being Hispanic won’t give you an automatic leg up. With that said, I agree that you need leadership in medically related activities and you should set your goal higher than 32 on act.

Did anyone received hofstra interview invites yesterday or today? Everyone is posting different answers about invites it’s really confusing & frustrating… Please share here if u hear from hofstra today… Thanks

Medical field is quite dependent on standardized tests (MCAT, USMLE steps and so on).

I have heard some schools have mentioned in their interviews (this is for people applying directly after undergrad) that they ask for ACT and SAT scores as a future predictor for STEP scores since they have identified some correlation. Someone applying after undergrad have no control over these scores since they took the test 5 years earlier but they can still make a difference in the evaluation of the applicant.

Personally, I think 34 is a minimum in order to eliminate it from being an issue for BS/MD consideration. Different programs will have different thresholds but if someone has a 34, then most programs move onto evaluating other areas.

Got email from program director that everyone who has received interview invites will be called or emailed by end of the day today (Hofstra ) people who do not relieve interview wil be notified by April 1st.

I just called the med school and they said they R still in the process of sending out inteviews…why can’t these ppl be on the same page throughout…what do we believe??

Did they say any timeline ? I have an email from BS/MD program director at Hofstra not from the med school. Not sure if that’s the same thing.

Hello Friends,
Temple Interview are just about done. Wanted to update a few details for future reference. Total 6 batches of interview with max of 6 in each batch. Today 38 called and 35 showed. Group interviews in a group setting. I do not know how many seats this year yet…

Same thing I got reply back from hofstra bs/md program director not md school. Today is last day for invites…

To c Gonzalez
Retake act
Too low

Med school didn’t want to give a definite date…but it sounded like till late February the way he worded it

I think believing the director would make the most sense
