***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

@Threebrook
Thanks for the HPME Stats Summary!
By the way, is that for the current cycle, 2016?

I would like to know which BS/MD program is good from the following list

(1) University of Miami HPME - 7 year program
(2) VCU GMED - 8 year program but relaxed medical school admission requirements.
(3) University of Houston/University of Texas Houston Medical school 7 year program
(4) University of Texas San Antonio FAME (7 year program)

At this point I am not as much concerned about cost or location. Any input will be great.

@ymehkri Somewhere I saw that you got into SLU med scholars and California Northstateā€™s BSMD. That is the same case for me. So what choice are you leaning to?

@want2bedoc If you are a TX resident then go with TX schools because they have some preference for their in state candidates while applying for residency. Else, I would go with the same order that you have listed. Iā€™m not too sure how U Miami compares with VCU at med school level, although VCU has some top Fellowship programs like Cardiology (Interventional especially). I know 9-10 years may sound really farā€¦ But, time really flies by and if you are a far sighted candidate this extra info may help.

@GoldenRock - not sure if you were the one who asked a Q on how to make edits to CC and Iā€™m also not sure if you got an answer. If not: you can edit within 15 minutes of posting. Once you post there is a small flower/ asterisk sign that shows up on the right hand top corner of the message next to the message number. You can click on the flower and make edits (within 15 mints of posting).

@donking71575 Iā€™m still waiting on Union LIM and Drexel, as well as other programs that still havenā€™t reached out to me yet such as Stony Brook, USciences, NJMS, etc. If it comes down to just SLU or Cali Northstate, I would most likely lean towards my regular undergrad options since I still feel really iffy about those programs. There isnā€™t much out there about Cali Northstate and loads of people have complained about the SLU program.

@want2bedoc Purely on residency placement alone U Miami > UT Houston = UT San Antonio >> VCU, assuming youā€™re interested in training at upper tier research institutions. Miami could make sense, but the cost savings from attending a public undergrad/medical school are probably too good to pass up.

@kobe24mamba Hi, I am a current ninth grader who is very interested in the medical field, I was wondering how and where you applied to be a research intern at the UCSF vascular surgery lab? It would be really helpful if you could let me know how to possible apply for this amazing opportunity when I am older/ meet the possible requirements

@GoldenRock Hi, I am a current ninth grader who is very interested in the medical field, I was wondering how and where you applied to be a research intern at the UCB labs? There is one catch. The bs/md program from University of Houston can either assign UT Houston medical school or UT Galveston Medical school. This is not based on merit. Both medical schools gets chance to pick first every other year. UT Galveston medical school is probably one of the oldest medical school but it is not ranked. Is that a concern?

@narkor Thanks. Someone sent a PM on how to edit.

@want2bedoc If you are a Texas resident, you are already blessed! Because Texas has so many programs and they allow only Texas resident to apply for the BS/MD program with the exception of UofH which you listed. Some schools are not ranked due to variety of reasons. But UTMB is a good school and you should not be worried. For example both UTMB and California Northstate are not ranked. But for different reasons. UTMB may not have provided what ever docs requested by ranking agency but where as California Northstate is not a school to be ranked at this stage and should be very careful and think twice about that school.

@hs2med Congratulations because you are starting at the right time of the high school about BS/MD programs. My D got the UCB by chance. She sent emails to various professors in UCB and did not get any response. But suddenly she got a mail from one prof and she went there for the summer. GL.

@want2bedoc the match lists are comparable, so I wouldnā€™t worry too much

UTMB was ranked in the mid 50s at one time but lost a lot of research and 2 years of school due to a due storm wiping out several research facilities on campus. They are still recovering from that.

How would siena/AMC program rank among VCU/GWU/SIENA/UMKC/UNION/RPI/NEOMED ?

@blessu what criteria are you interested in? if itā€™s strength of residency placement, iā€™d say GWU>VCU=UMKC=Albany=NEOMED. While I would consider GWU ā€˜mid-tier,ā€™ the rest of the schools are decidedly ā€˜low tierā€™

Any one go to SBU/GW? Any thoughts on this program?

GoldenRock - where is UCB?

@What???!! UCB is University of California at Berkeley. It is not a formal internship. So if you are planning try some formal programs.

@ymehkri I am still waiting for some too,but most likely I am going to have to choose between these programs. What have you heard about the SLU program?

Hi all,

Anyone know when the GW results would be out?

Thanks!
