***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

@pokemon1

Well if your looking for newer lesser known BSMD programs, The Wilkes Medical Scholars Program at FAU (http://www.fau.edu/honors/academics/majors/medical-scholar-program.php) is a pretty decent one to apply to.

Up until this year, FAU’s 7 year accelerated program was a Florida restricted BSMD, but they opened up applications to anyone in the USA. They also tend to offer sizable out of state scholarships so the tuition ends up being pretty affordable,

TXbsmd2016, both NJIT and Rutgers-NWR offer full rides if accepted.

Anyone have the Drexel supplement from the portal yet and can share?

@mdiqbal71 Do you know how many seats are in NJIT per year and the split between in-state and OOS? For Rutgers NWR saw some where it is only 2 seats. But not able to find the number of seats for NJIT. Sent mail to them and never got reply. Thanks.

@goldenrock, this year 3 joined NJIT and 3 joined Rutgers and all are IS , I got accepted through all of them but choose to go to NJiT, and honestly I love it here and I think I made the right choice , the program is aggressive , peers get along very well , the staff and professors are supportive and the honors dorms are awesome, NJIT has about 25 other kids who are in 7 year carribean program who equally work hard to stay here in US and from what I hear about 90% end up getting admissions here in U.S. Any questions you can PM me

How many volunteer hours should one have under one’s belt by the end of 9th, 10th, and 11th grade, respectively? All official hospital volunteer programs in my area have a minimum age requirement of 18! I really don’t know how to get around this age requirement. Did you guys volunteer in those grades, and if so, how? Thanks!

Hi all. I’m new here and have really appreciated reading this thread and similar threads from previous years. I have a question: Does anyone have a sense for how much it matters to our odds of admission, if one is applying to BSMD programs, to visit the college in advance to “demonstrate interest”? I decided to apply to BSMD programs only recently, and now I am having trouble arranging time to visit all of the schools that have BSMD programs to which I want to apply. I am not sure how critical it is to jam all of these visits to other states into my fall calendar. I’d rather just wait and visit the one(s), if any, that invite me for interviews, but is that a bad plan?

Hey @DHS2016, I think it depends on the program usually with how close the undergraduate institution is to the medical school. Other than that, visiting the college won’t usually increase your chances for getting into that the particular BS/MD program. Many times the tour of both the undergrad and med school can occur on the same day.

@DHS2016

I would visit schools that are located within 100 miles from you.

Please help me out! My sibling is at NEOMED, but I’m not sure if I am good enough to make it into a BS/MD program.

I forgot to add that my counselor and I have a good relationship, so his rec will be good. I am getting recommendations from teachers who have taught me for a couple years and have a good opinion of me.

You sound well qualified
The key point
Do you know you want to be a doctor ?
If you know, this is a great path

We have four in family who have done this

You seem qualified and should be fine

To sunflower
Talk when sat or act scores come in

@bearchichi in terms of wanting to be a doctor, the career field is extremely appealing due to the nature of the field. In other words, I’m really committed to become a doctor. Do you have an opinion about which ones are reaches etc?

@734275

With your extensive research background, I recommend adding RPI Physician Scientist Program, where research is a mandatory component. At the end, you will receive an MD degree with distinction in research.

@bearchichi do you think that I would be qualified enough to reach RPI’s program? And do you know if they have any instate bias?

btw @734275 wayne state cancelled their program
