If you daughterâs EC has every component (med volunteer, physician shadowing, research) then she has nothing to worry about in that department. The rest to concentrate on is test scores and grades. Pitt does not require the Common App personal essay nor an activity list/resume. It only has a few short answers. So, make sure that her answers show off as much of her accomplishments and values. The scholarship questions get her to be considered for merit up to 25K. The PittHonors questions might qualify her for a competitive full ride as part of PittHonors. Iâm sure all of these will somehow play into the Guarantee Med interview invitation. For other Guarantee programs (pharmacy, nursing, PA, etc.) no interview is required. Good luck to her next year! This group offers a lot of insight into this process.
Withdrew from Hofstra interview few minutes back. Hopefully one of you gets in!!! Good Luck!
@Nvidia20 thanks for the info. My son just got an email for his RPI/AMC, was told heâs still under consideration from AMC. I saw somebody has been accepted by Union/AMC. Is there any different for different feeding schools or he got kind of deferred at this time? If heâs deferred, how much chance he can get in later?
@AZawan & @MD2028 ,
Congrats!
@MD2028,
Just wondering if you go through Union as a feeder school.
Thanks.
Hello! I received admission into UCFâs Burnett Medical Scholars program. I was wondering how difficult it is to maintain a 3.8 gpa as per the program requirements and also pass the interview? Also, how great of a program is it overall? Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.
at the union interview, they said that 75% of interviewees get marked as under considerationâand most people who are accepted come from that group. so there is still a chance @ohnjmom
@onelittleredfrog @junebug20 and others,
When you say institutional research do you mean research at NIH affiliated, etc or or independent research under any professor in any research university? Does research done under programs such as RSI (no cost), BU RISE (students need to pay), BU GROW (students are paid) count under this subheading?
@onelittleredfrog @junebug20 and others,
Even physician shadowing is not an easy task for high school students because of HIPAA and other privacy concerns in US. Other than knowing someone or getting lucky, is there any established method to get the opportunity to shadow physicians in US? In many states, you can not get EMT certification under age 18 and I do not think you can become a scribe also under age 18.
I asked the admissions office after my interview at AMC.
The Ad Com meets weekly to rank students in their list post interview using several criteria. At some point, they auto admit few, reject few and most are put in UC. As they get close to end of interviews and have a good picture of their applicant pool they start snapping lines and take people of UC and make offers. This is a pretty clever way to manage interviews from jan through march. I was told that by end of Feb they start getting a good feel but they want to be fair to people interviewing in March hence most are put in UC.
Read the MD admissions process on their site and discussion on SDN - it is identical. They have 45-50 slots between RPI/Union/Sienna.
@starplatinum @MD2028 thank you very much for the input. Congratulations to all gotten admissions!
My HS son asked the departments where he voluntee forsr shadowing opps (since HIPPA applies to the volunteers too). The Veteran Affairs Hospitals are very generous and appreciative of volunteers. He had the most fun shadowing residents last summer. At least one fewer hoops to jump through! Family/professional connections do open doors that who donât have connections cannot open.

Hi,
Anyone here who applied or got accepted in UAB, Alabama BS/MD program? Any information such as difficulty, MCAT requirement, number of students, %age of student that finally make it to medical school will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
@talk Thank you!!
Can somebody please shed some light on the MMI format? Does each school have the same format or will they explain some nuances on the day of the test? D is nervous about not knowing some specific rules for MMI?
Here is how itâs explained on the AAMC website:

good source!

I think in my book, âinstitutional researchâ means research done out of an educational institution, commercial or governmental lab, etc with formal publications. Anything other than independent study on your own⊠I hope once in undergrad, especially in a BSMD cohort, finding unpaid/stipend-supported opportunities during the school year would be a little easier. With some experience, applyiing for a paid position for the summer would definitely be a bonus.
Did you get into AMC? I am UC
