***Official Thread for 2020 BSMD applicants***

Be prepared to take the tests when and if they are offered, otherwise stop worrying about things not in your control.

@srk2017 thanks Iā€™m not worrying Iā€™m just curious and want to plan accordingly!

just got accepted to ou mhsp! how is the program overall? Better than siena/amc?

Congratulations!! May be they only sent to accepted candidates

Anyone else heard fro OU MHSP ? We did not

@Konohakatu I only started research at the beginning of 12th, and I donā€™t have any publications. I got into Brown PLME and BU SMED. Hope this helps!

@swordfischer that really helps me thanks! And Congrats!

@aniiiiiii Here is a biased response.

If OU and Siena/AMC are the only 2 options, would strongly recommend OU.
OU provides lot of flexibility in UG and if you are NMF will get price break. OU staff and admin and every one are nice and will get good support. OU COM is the primary place for all complicated cases in the state of OK and OU has all specialties.

Like any college, you need to seek opportunity, whether it is research, volunteer and developing new friends, learning new things etc., Definitely it will help if you know driving and have a car to go to OKC to volunteer. You donā€™t need from day 1, but down the road after a year or a semester once you settle down in new place.

Curious, why did you want to torture all folks who respond to your questions with a complicated handle name!!! (it is 7 i and there is another 6 i with the the same prefix)

@scarlet20

Another few points you may want to factor in. If weather is a concern, buy him a Canada Goose :-). He deserves it for all that hard work and accomplishments.

Regarding the popularity of BU, the acceptance rate this year seems to be ~18%.

They have top notch Bio med eng program and the life sciences there is ranked 75 worldwide in latest times higher ratings.

Good luck to your son wherever he opts to go.

It could help your chances for UPitt/UPMC GAP, NU HPME, RPI/AMC Phy scientist program etc.

Congratulation to you son for getting into some very good colleges - Berkley is as difficult to get in as any I know, but grade deflation may be an issue for engineering.

UMich is well know as a pre-med friendly school with lots of research opportunities at both the UG and medical campus. Case, I think would be a nice smaller sized private university with research opportunities. UW is a nice campus but not exceptional for premed.

I would rank them as UMich, Case, UW, Ohio, Pitt.

For CA - UCLA, Berkley, SD, Davis

I read some where that UCLA sends more students to medical schools than any other University (closely followed by UMich). Too bad UIUC is not in your list  very good pre-med.

Anyone know when NJMS decisions are coming out?

Congratulations!

I would also recommend taking a look at the BS MD Results thread for getting a good idea of what worked and didnā€™t for a variety of HS seniors (start with 2020 and also look at 2019 & 2018)

Good Luck!

I think NJMS results come out sometime around the first week of April. When I looked at the BSMD thread from last year, people got a call about NJMS decisions on April 1st, from what I remember.

Congrats @aniiiiiii

Also, congratulations to everyone who got acceptances into BS/MD programs, and good luck to those who are still waiting for any decisions!!! It has definitely been a challenging process, but I am so glad that thereā€™s such a huge support group on this thread, who are willing to give helpful advice! Iā€™ve been seeing the posts on this thread throughout the duration of this year, and the insight you all have given to me and each other has been very helpful and encouraging! Youā€™re all very driven and motivated people, and I know we will all succeed in the different paths weā€™ll take, whether it be the BS/MD route, traditional med route, or neither! Good luck everyone!

And more importantly, be safe and take care!!!

This reminds me what I had read a few years ago (4-5), of the students going to one of the more popular Caribbean med schools from US, by universities they studied at, 4 of the top 5 were UCs. I think the 5th was NYU, not in that order. Donā€™t remember exactly, but almost sure UCLA students/alumni were the most. Then I think SD and Davis were there too, donā€™t remember the 4th one.

This also reminds me that 95% MDs are coming from traditional route.
