Official Thread for Aspiring Stanford Transfers...

Anyone start on their applications yet?

I have. Apllication essays were finished over the summer. About to mail everything off on Thursday. All I need to do now is retake my SAT I's and get at least the following:

M: 650+
R: 650+
W: 650+

This is the first time I'm applying to the university. So I will not hold my breath as to whether Stanford will admit me or not. I still have to complete my Yale, Brown, and Cornell CAS applications. I only hope that ONE of the 4 schools will accept me.

Hi. I hope to transfer to Stanford next year, but I'm afraid my stats aren't good enough. Good luck to you guys.

go to berkeley!

I wish I could apply to Stanford. The summer I spent taking class there was one of the best I've had yet, academically or otherwise. Alas, I'm not competitive. So I'll keep peeking in here and eyeing you guys enviously. Good luck!

I don't believe my stats (most especially my laughable SAT) are good enough for Stanford. Nevertheless, I'm applying as Stanford is my dream school. I know I will regret it if I don't.

The Stanford transfer pool must be crazy talented (come on, around a five percent admit rate?). Does anyone have any advice on how to maximize chances of admission into Stanford as a transfer?

hey all,

applying to stanford as well... best of luck to everyone!

admissions are unpredictable. In recent years, the number of people who transfered to Stanford was around 80-85. A decade ago, Stanford would admit around 195 applicants, and around 155 would enroll. The most difficult year for transfer students was 1999, when they took in less than 22.

If the early admisssions are any indication, we could see the admissions rate go even lower for transfer students to the level of Yale transfers.

damn the EAers then...

unfortunately, this year, they took 60. i am afraid...that number will continue to decline. i also have cardinal dreams of treesandtreesandtrees but because i'm applying next year and due to a poor h.s. performance, i feel that even near-perfect (2360) sat's and really great extracurrics (that i built up for stanford) may not even be enough, even with a 3.95 college. it was a difficult thing to live up to, but i look at things more realistically every day. we'll see how it works out..

Damn, if your chances are slim with those stats zemookmook....then I've calculated mine to be at .0000000001% chance of acceptance...hah

Oh wells, a man's gotta dream.

I am applying to stanford.

I personally would focus MORE on the ESSAYS than anything else. That's is where the distinctions come from. Everything else is all relative as everyone has the same credentials. The essays is what sets you a part from everyone else.

well said redline, if only I had a good hook though...What are you guys using as hooks?

Do you think being born in russia raised in Israel and moving to the united states in 18 by myself (trilingual) is a hook?

redlinekid, were you rejected from Cornell for the spring semster? are you applying again for the fall?

I was rejected for the Fall 2005 Semester because I wrote a crappy essay at the last minute without thinking it through. I am applying again for the Fall 2006 school. This time, I wrote an essay that much better than my last. I wrote my college essays over the summer because the essay questions are always the same. Stanford change their essay question for the long essay section. I used the same essay for all of the schools I'm applying to.

Use the essays to argue your case for admission. Don't do it to impress them. Let your feelings shine on the things that matters to you.

woo applying to stanford as my long shot dream school too...transfer fall 2006. Good luck to everyone!

Do you think being born in russia, raised in Israel and moving by my self to the united states in 18 years of age (trilingual) is a hook? should I concentrate my application on that?

i am applying to stanford as well. first gen immigrant, just like you.
