Official Thread for the Non-Candidates

Alas, my friends.

First and foremost, congrats to all those how made it. You guys are no doubt a ridiculously talented and amazing group of kids.

For the rest of us, I suppose this is just a bit of space to vent a bit.

Let us not forget that we're pretty cool kids too. In my case, even though Olin was a first choice, I know that I also have a lot of other options; no doubt you guys like me have also had a lot of doors open to you.

No matter where I end up, I'll probably keep an eye on Olin from time to time, just to see how this crazy Olin thing works out. And who knows I may be working with some of the Olin-ers if I figure out a way to afford a certain other Massachusetts school known for engineering. :-)

Once again, congrats to all in, and for those (the vast majority, mind you) like me, I urge you all to keep your head and hopes up, wherever this crazy college process may take you/me/us!

As someone who also got their decision through U*S*PS today, just remember everyone else: it isn't the end of the world. I've loved Olin since the day I found out about this incredible place (here on CC coincidentally), but just like finding a mate, there's plenty of fish in the sea. All of us will (hopefully ;)) be going off to college this fall somewhere we will love attending for the next for the next 4+ years, it just turns out it won't be in Needham.

As a senior in my 4th year at a project based, team focused high school, I knew what kind of a place Olin is to learn at. The small size and new school experience is something I wouldn't trade for the world, but maybe it's better for me to go off somewhere new and different instead of My Current High School 2.0. I'm already accepted at 2 places I love and will have a great time at, but I would've definitely picked Olin before them.

And on the other schools topic, I'll hear in a little under 2 months from 2 certain Massachusetts California schools with very similar names. I'll venture a guess that I'm not the only here in this situation ;).

Yes, ditto to all of the above.

Yes, it's very disappointing and I wish so badly that I could go, but this happened for a reason. Like you said, there are plenty of other fish in the sea.

I'm just worried now how much Olin will affect my future college life...Will I always be looking back and wondering what's happening at Olin? Oh, I also wanted to see their production of "Into the Woods" very much too! AHHH I really really wanted to go like many of you.

But it's okay right? No matter where we end up, even if it's not a certain Mass. or California school, we will have an amazing time at college. We can't let this one rejection stop us.

Also, the letter was pretty nice. :P

Me too :( It'll get online though, don't worry.

For those on the standby list/waitlist:

Don't despair. Olin's application deadline was December 1st, so there must have been candidates who were already accepted ED elsewhere. Last year, there were 3 spots offered to standby candidates, and that was with a January 1, post-ED decisions deadline.

I was a standby candidate last year, and I was almost gave up, but decided to pursue it anyways and try to get invited to CW. PM me if you need some help about what to do if you got a standby letter.

It's disappointing but, it wasn't completely unexpected.

Well, you'll all probably get into other excellent schools otherwise.

Good luck!
